This company is scamming people's bank accounts for at least $20.00 each time! I took part of their Free CD offer online becuase I had heard of BMG Music and knew they were an established company; not just one who popped up over night. The deal was I got 7 free CD's now and had to purchase one more at full price within a year after that. They have you enter a credit card number to pay a small shipping and handling fee. I went over ALL of their membership agreements, terms, and conditions to make sure I understood it and it was exactly as I had read it. All in all, not bad right? WRONG!!!!!

After they sent me my CDs - the last one was on back order for 3 weeks - they then sent me another CD that I DIDN'T ORDER!!! And yes, they charged my account $20.77 for it. At no time did I give them permission to hold my credit card number on file for future purchases! Nor did they tell me that they would do that! After about a month, I got another CD and yes another charge to my account! I had never even heard of the band, much less put in an order for their CD!! So I started going through their information to look for a phone number. I wanted to have them reimburse me and I'd send them their CD back to end my subscription. I would have kept the first one and eaten the cost for it because technically that would have fullfilled my contract with them, right? Strangely enough, they don't list a phone number anywhere on their invoices or their site! They only give an standard email address and a P.O. Box address for questions and suggestions. I think that makes them look even more sneaky considering they make it impossible to solve and problems we as buyers have in any kind of timely manner. It's like they want to make sure no one can reach an actual human being when they have a problem or question about a purchase!

Thanks to this site I was able to get their phone number for their music services, and I am still trying to call them to rectify this situation. I have also had to call my bank to put a stop to BMG getting into my account, and also so I can challenge their previous withdrawls!

STAY AWAY FROM BMG MUSIC SERVICES IF YOU VALUE YOUR BANK ACCOUNT STAYING IN TACT!!!!

Here is their phone number for anyone else who has these problems with them. They have office hours, so make sure to call during a business day. Otherwise, you get a recording saying their closed and they hang up on you!!

Go To Their Website

Go to the BMG website, register with your BMG account number, and then sign on. You will find the option to cancel your account there and get a confirmation number. That won't help you with past deliveries that you didn't order, but at least you shouldn't get any more.

membership 'perks'

You might should have read the terms a little better. The CD's you recieved are part of the membership perks. According to the information you gave them, they choose a CD they think you would be interested in and UNLESS you specifically request for them NOT to send the CD they will send it and charge your card. BMG is a music club. They don't just send free CD's and expect nothing back. There is an agreement to purchase a specific number of CDs' within a specific amount of time at full price to recieve the perks of free CD's.

You can send the CD's back for a full refund (also in the terms).

NO I do not work for BMG but I have been a member before. I enjoyed it and got a lot of CD's at great prices but you have to understand the terms and what needs to be done.

BMG isn't a ripoff

It really is a shame that a company that offers excellent values and good customer service is besmirched by slow-witted consumers who don't understand the contract they have agreed to.

Getting CD's you didnt order..... Well, the plain truth here, is that by not returning the mail-in reply card, or by failing to reply on-line, you DID order the monthly selection and you will be billed. SOLUTION #1 - Mark 'Return to Sender on the package along with your account number and you will be credited (even though not responding was your fault). SOLUTION #2 - Ask to be put on the 'positive option.' This was, you only will receive your monthly selection when you do respond as opposed to when you do not respond.

Unautherized use of credit card.... When you join, you give BMG the right to use your credit card for future orders. The website usually gives you about two weeks to send payment. If you do not, your orders will be billed. SOLUTION #1 - Pay your bill in a timely manner. SOLUTION #2 - If you want to pay using a different method, change payment method online. SOLUTION # 3 - Don't purchase CD's you cannot afford.

If you are diligent in your use of this service, it is the best bargain in music. After you are a member for awhile, the deals get better and better. I have been a member for 7 years. My average cost of CD's for the last year is exactly $3.93 each (this is the TOTAL cost and includes S & H). By the way, if you stick with it, shipping and handling will eventually be free, and all CD's will be just $5.99 each. You will still earn member points and anniversary points as well as Selection of the Month Bonuses - all of which will lower your average cost per CD. Last week, I ordered exactly 20 CD's for a TOTAL cost of $55.20. How many CD's can you buy at your record store for 55 bucks? Three? Maybe four?

No rip off here!!!

I've been a member of BMG since the 80s and have never had a problem. Considering how 'detailed' you were in reading the terms and conditions, I find it strange how you missed the part about them sending you a new CD each month UNLESS you decline via mail or on their website.

I've never once received a CD that I did not want or order - but then again I fulfilled my responsibilities as the customer and sent in my declinations on time!

Read Your Music Guide Carefully!

In every issue of your music guide there is a featured selection. In the paper or the online version you MUST decline the feature selection or it will be automatically sent to you.

Not declining the feature selection is the same as ordering it. BMG is not just randomly billing you for a CD.

I was a BMG customer for a year and had no problems.

Extremely Unfair

The agreement clearly specifies that the Selection of the Month will be sent unless you decline it, which is pretty easy to do.

My experience through several memberships has been that they do respect one's wish to use a credit card for only a single purchase. Keeping the card information on file may be the default setting, but the box can be easily unchecked.

I'm not saying I've never had problems with BMG: They make it difficult to contact them; they use the cheapest, flimsiest packaging material; and, on occasion, I've been charged shipping and handling for a replacement. But, let's not throw the baby out with the bath water. Thanks to BMG, I've been able to keep the average cost of the CDs I buy to under $10.

All the complaints about receiving unwanted music is unwarranted. Consumers should take care to return reply cards or respond online to Selection of the Month offers. Accusing BMG of fraud is a reckless misstatement.
