Teaneck, New JerseyI took my daughter to a hotel audition for the Academy of Cinema and Television (ACT). I was there with about 100 people. They said they were very selective in who they worked with and made me make a decision right away about signing my daughter up for classes. The 'National Talent Scout' Lily, who didn't even have a business card, said if I didn't pay her they would have several other kids to take my daughter place. Unfortunately I let the pressure get the best of me and gave them my credit card. The next day I sent off a certified letter of cancellation and started try to contact them to cancel. No one took my calls or returned my messages. After a couple days of getting the run around, I called my credit card company to reverse the charges. They told me that they have received several complaints just like mine and were looking into suspending their account with them.
I just want other parents to be very careful. Every legitimate company honors their cancellation policy and doesn't hide with your money! I also started doing extra research on ACT. I contacted Disney and they said ACT or their 'Agents' does not cast or have authority to cast parts on Hannah Montana (like their radio ad said).
Also, since they are supposedly so selective and only take a limited number of people. Why did they continue doing searches in my town for several weeks??? Didn't they take enough money from us yet?

I worked with act for a year. I learned several things about this business and the company.
Before you title a person, you need to know what their title is. For example, Lily is not a talent scout, she is a national director for the academy and as well a scout looking for potential. They don't just want your money. First they see if both the parents and children are interested and also if you are committed to it.
Second, when you send a certified letter, it can take up to a week for mail handling purposes. Then, the cancellation may take up to ten business days. Also it is a legality if another company slander's another so legaling I kinow for a fact that the credit card company would not give you that information.
Third, the commercial does not say anything about casting for hannah montana. The commercial states : 'there is a world agent in your area this weekend who has worked with children that have been on hannah montana, drake and josh, and etc.' it also states: 'your child could be on those shows, its an opportunity to get your foot in the door.
Of course if you cant afford tuition you can't attend. It is just like a normal university or trade school.
ACT was returning to your area because they obviously did not find what they were looking for.
Sorry you were disappointed.
