San Antonio, TexasI am a customer of godaddy, i have several domain names registered with them. I cant remember if I was logged in at the time of the incident but I used the domain name search engine at Godaddy.com when the domainname.com I chose showed available. I was excited to know it was not taken.
I went home after work that day to discuss the website venture with my wife and we agreed to it. When I got online and returned to purchase the name it was taken. I was so disappointed so I did a Whois search to see who had gained the domain name and it was showing registered to Godaddy.
I went to the website I was trying to obtain to see it and it was parked by godaddy. They have a doamin name auction service that lists high appraised domain names for sale. So if you really want a domain name you will have to pay to obtain it.
I feel that godaddy is monitoring the domain name search and using the data entry history to market your domain search ideas at a higher price. Do not search your domain name their website unless you are going to secure it immediately. Use an outside Whois search that does not sell domains.

Not Likely
I worked at GoDaddy for 2 years. I too, have searched a domain name, later to find that someone else had bought it and it was in a parked status.
GoDaddy would never risk their Billions for a Domain name that may be worth hundreds, maybe thousands. It is unethical practices. While I can say that they way they treat their sales reps leaves something to be desired, I do know that they do not monitor and snatch and grab searched domain names. ICANN Monitors for that stuff.
In my case, I actually called the person listed in the WHOIS Information and she was an author. I will not list the domain name here but we had the idea, for the same name, about the same time. She simply beat me to the punch.
I'm afraid you will have to toss this one up to bad luck. It happens. Unless you have proof that GoDaddy is monitoring searched domain names, that is actually quite a BOLD Accusation.
I have searched Domain names that were worth a few thousand dollars, left it alone for 3 or 4 days, and went back and purchased them for the normal $8.99, or whatever it was at that time.
Sorry about your luck. :(
Ethics is not this company's strong suit.
as there are many websites created through godaddy by scammers, with stolen credit card, and hidden usually by domainsbyproxy. Investigations into these type operations are lacking.
what was the domain name?
how nice of you to not include the domain name so we can verify
this.
