Hillsboro, OregonOk, so four months ago I activated my Motorola refurbished cricket phone. Four months! It completely stopped working four months after I purchased it! I called the 800 number to see what I could do. The lady told me that because the phone was still under a factory warranty I could take it into a cricket store to see if it was something they could fix. If not I could get a temporary phone to use until my new phone arrived and if I needed help purchasing a new phone they could issue me a credit up to the value of the phone that just quit working. I was amazed! What customer service! What a refreshing change.
Yeah, and then I showed up at the cricket store and realized I must have been dreaming if I thought any of that would happened. The jerk at the store checked my phones battery and told me that I had two options: I could send the phone to the manufacturer and have them repair it which could take up to six weeks. or I could pay $45.00 to have them give me another phone, one that would be 'equal' to the one that just broke. I told him all about the phone conversation with the 800 number. He told me that it wasn't the first time he had heard that but that wasn't policy and that I only had those two options. I thought this was hillarious. There was a huge sign on the wall behind him saying 'We are here to serve you!' And then he hands me a brochure and tells me to read it. When I told him I refused to pay the $45.00 and I wanted what I was told by the 800 people he stood there are refused to speak or move.
I told him he now had two choices: Honor what the 800 number offered me, or cancel my account and be reported to the better business bureau. He stood there motionless and refused to say a word! What a wimp!!! So I cancelled my account. And now, a week later, they have taken the monthly bill out of my bank account!!!
I am so furious. I can't even report them to the BBB because the BBB doesn't have Cricket as a cell phone provider!!! And trying to get a hold of them by telephone to get this crap straightened out? Forget about it! Their 800 number doesn't know what a live person is. I entered my telephone number and gee, what a surpise, it doesn't exist anymore! That's because I cancelled it! But they took the money didn't they!!!! Why isn't someone suing these people?? I'll tell you what, i'm contacting my bank and my state's attorney general and I suggest the rest of you with valid complaints do the same!

Unfortunately, the person at the Cricket Store was correct....
I hate to tell you this, but the rep at the Cricket store was correct. Cricket's policy regarding replacing phones is available online. You can see it at: http://www.mycricket.com/cricketsupport/faqs/phonesaccessorieswarranty and look under 'Warranty Exchange Program'. Therefore, the rep at the store wasn't lying to you, it was the 800 number rep who gave you incorrect information.
However, when I previously worked there about 4 years ago, there was an offer available in the tech support department where if you wanted to, you could suspend your service and be credited for **ONLY UP TO 14 DAYS OF SERVICE** for your phone being inoperable. This gives you time to replace your phone. But, since I don't work for Cricket any longer, I don't know if they changed that process or not. You can ask about it. The 800 number rep was on the right track, but gave the wrong information (based on what you're saying).
In regards to your bank account being drafted, it sounds like you activated 'Automatic Bill Payment' (ABP). That is why your account was drafted. It also sounds like you used a DEBIT CARD to setup ABP as well since you said that it hit your bank account. What was supposed to happen is that when your service is cancelled, it SHOULD stop the ABP draft. Definitely submit a complaint to your bank regarding that draft since you had already cancelled your service before the next month's bill was due.
As for the BBB, you can locate Cricket by searching the BBB website for 'Leap Wireless' as Cricket is owned by that company. File a complaint about your issue. The reason why you cannot get a 'live person' on the phone is because you cancelled your service. The representatives can usually only help those who are CURRENT customers.
Hope this helps....
