Lincoln, NebraskaGRANTMYOFFER.COM sounded like a good idea. The add came up when I was doing something completely unrelated online. It was one of those 'offers' that seems harmless, and in the process 'might' garner you some useful information. NOT!!
I paid the $1.95 for the Free Grant Finder CD but in no literature received or online did I read anywhere that anything had to be canceled within any time limit or my account would be charged the $99.00. This is a huge scam and unfortunately, there isn't a way to get the word out to people before they fall for it. It's not a sign of desperation, simply inquisitiveness that anyone may sign up for the CD. I don't need the free money, but you get what you pay for. $1.95 doesn't get you much. But in this case, it sets you up for at least another unsuspecting $99.00 charge out of the blue.
I called my bank. They gave me a number to give to these people to call to back off the charge, if they agreed. I call the 888-255-1241 number and had to call like four times before I got anything other than a busy signal. Then when i did get into the system, all I got was messages saying their CS reps were busy and would get back to me as soon as they could. Never did. My bank said the other option was to wait till the pending transaction posted, and call them back and file a complaint to have the bank see if they couldn't do something. I'm not hopeful, but consider it a costly lesson learned.
