1040 Tax Biz is a company that specializes in propelling clients successfully into careers in the tax field. Harold Warden, CEO of 1040 Tax Biz explained the vision for the company, "what we do is we help individuals get into the tax business as cheaply as possible. We have been at it for about 20 years now." The company has gleaned quality information in regards to the tax business and successfully combined franchising and service to create the company they have today,"generally speaking, we give you all the benefits of a franchise but we offer it as a service rather than a long term commitment. This is so people can sign up with us for one or two years. It is a year to year service agreement. But with that service agreement we give you all the industry contacts, the buying power of a group, training, technical support, and marketing support.”
Leads for 1040 Tax Biz are obtained through two primary venues. The first being pay per click online services like Google or Yahoo. They also are in contract with lead generation services like Franchise Gator, Franchise Click, and America Best Franchise as well as various others. Mr. Warden went on to go over the typical sales process that a potential client would have with their company, "our consumer is an entrepreneur looking to get into business. They talk with one of our sales consultants to start with and basically they’ll answer all their questions concerning pricing, availability, and service support... they will act as the liaison to these individuals through the entire process. Once they have decided to come on board with us, we quickly introduce them to training, people in training, customer support, marketing and so on.”
CUSTOMER CARE & COMPLAINT RESOLUTION FROM 1040 TAX BIZ
During the onsite interview, Mr. Warden was asked to describe a situation where a client was not satisfied with the level of service they received. Mr. Warden expressed that often times when there is a complaint is it during the end of tax season, "after we completed a season they come back and say 'I did not make as much as I anticipated' or it was harder than they thought is was going to be, or the charges were higher than we could market. That generally the type of issues we deal with." Mr. Warden expressed that this is not a common complaint for 1040 Tax Biz due to the thorough nature of there training program, "it is imbedded in all our conversations with them in that we are trying to instill our knowledge in the industry and the products and how they work in the market out there. We try to explain to them it takes about three years to build a book of business. This isn’t out the gate you’re going to win that very first tax season. The people we hear from are usually the ones that didn’t understand the product, didn’t understand the business, or they thought they were just going to do it themselves and run with it." If the customer is upset with the turnout of their first tax season 1040 Tax Biz states that their number on priority is the success of their customers, "in most cases, we say let’s just do it next year no charge because the charge is not a significant issue for us...let’s do it next year and let’s get more involved and start a lot earlier than they did in the past." When asked to comment on complaints posted on Ripoff Report's website Mr. Warden explained that while he is unaware of who is posting the complaints against the company he did reach out through Ripoff Report in order to remedy it, "we posted rebuttals on Ripoff Report's website. We requested [that] people call me directly... I left my email and phone number on there saying if you have a complaint call me direct. Nobody has ever called me. Nobody has ever sent me an email... this leads me to wonder are they true complaints or competition." Mr. Warden has reached out to his sales department to make sure that the complaints in questions are not possible with the program, "they say we are not doing this. [We] make sure in all of our conversations and correspondence [we are] setting the expectation. We always deliver." Mr. Warden went on to state, "we are certified by the IRS to offer tax training. All of our training issues continuing education credit. All of it is built into the product and the core of what we are trying to do... the software that we give them, the training is there, and the marketing support is there.”

Ripoff Report would like to let readers know that Ripoff Report emailed this customer so the member business could make things right with them. When a business joins the Corporate Advocacy Program, Ripoff Report emails everyone from the past so the member business can make things right with them. Of course, everything within reason. In order to confirm that the complaints were resolved, Ripoff Report is copied on all responses so we can insure that the member business did right by their customer. Sadly, the author of the complaint below was unreasonable and didn’t allow 1040 Tax Biz the opportunity to make things right with them within reason.
STATEMENT FROM 1040 TAX BIZ:
It is difficult to respond without knowing the specifics. However a few points mention in the report. The change of location: in all of our contracts it is well listed and the client initial by their understanding that location could change based on the operational needs of the Retailer at any time the Retailer will provide an alternate location if needed as in this case. This happens every year to a small amount of locations, this is fully disclosed in several places in the contract, when it happens it is never connivance but is not a surprise. The software use is one of the top three nationally if not number one. The Tax software alone is retailed at $2,300.00 if you buy direct. We do hire seasonal help as we ramp up support for the tax season. Offend the same people come back year after year as seasonal employees.
NOW TO THE ORIGINAL REPORT THAT WAS FILED
I bought into several FAMILY DOLLAR locations this past tax season...BIG MISTAKE ever made and worst investment ever made. I made absolutely NO money. After I spent $400 dollars in advertisement, I receive a call from an employee whom no longer works for the company to tell me that the store I was currently in was being remodeled and I had two days to move to another location. I had to spend more money to change my address on all advertisement with hopes of gaining new clients, Keep in mind the new location was over 15 miles from the old location which was a total inconvenience for me and the clients . They fail to tell you that every return that you process have to be reviewed by them before submitted to the IRS which is a huge hold up for clients returns. The software is a pain in the @*# . Upon entering a contract with this company I signed one and never received a sign copy back with their signature however they hold you to the contract and will not let you out of it after they have received the $2899 that they charge for the Family Dollar Stores. FYI you are better off checking with the stores directly instead of using this company...they know nothing about these locations and sell them as if they do....the market analysis they claim to have done on these stores are bogus...DO your homework carefully before signing a contract as this will waste your time and money. Don't let the customer testimonials draw you in, they have a revolving door with employees and that should say a lot about clients and customers too. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone and will never do business with them again. The amount of money you will have to spend to become a partner and they get 30% of every penny you earn.....DO the math after you pay them to become a partner, advertisement,payroll, supplies, etc. then ask yourself if it is worth it. Anyone can open a tax office and DO NOT need a third party company to assist with building clients or getting into a good market...this can all be done by DOING YOUR HOMEWORK... 5901 East 38th St. Indianapolis, IN 46218 Indianapolis
