24 Hour Fitness Impossible to cancel membership Houston Texas

I called the club where they have about 3 sales representatives and two persons on the computer at the desk. They said they were unable to handle a cancellation request and gave me an 866 number. After being placed on hold for over 30 minutes on two occasions, I tried calling the sales number on their web site.

This was after I noticed that the "Contact Us" button on their national website only takes you in a circle and does not provide any contact information.

The sales desk answered my call after 30 seconds but said they were unable to cancel my membership and gave me the same 866 number. I said I wanted an address to send a cancellation notice to. She gave me the web site address, which I recognized was not an actual email address. I then insisted on an address for mailing a notice and was give a PO box in Carlsbad, CA, which I assume is a corporate address.

Then, to cover myself, I called my credit card company to dispute a charge that 24Hour Fitness had placed since I first began trying to cancel my membership. I also had the company cancel and reissue that card.

A couple days later I got an automated call from someone that turned out to be 24 hour Fitness. They said they were trying to collect money. I confirmed they worked for 24 Hour Fitness, and said I had been trying to reach them to cancel my membership, and would they please do that now. Marsha said that she was unable to do that, but I would have to call the 866 number. I said no, but if she would transfer me to a live person, that would be fine. She said she couldn't do that.

I told them I would see them in court before I ever paid them any money and they hung up on me.
