360 Solutions is a business opportunity that charges $40,000
- $50,000 to provide the materials and training to start, run and grow a
corporate training firm.  360 Solutions
convinces people that they can make a lot of money by selling classroom training
to companies, mainly aimed at making supervisors and managers better at their
jobs.

 

Unfortunately, there isnt much of a market any more for
classroom training, as most companies are only interested in on-line
training.  Very few companies are willing
to pull employees away from their jobs to sit in a class when they can get the
training on their own time in front of a computer. 360 Solutions approach was
great in the 90s and even early 2000s but it is obsolete now.  People would be better off opening a store
that sells pagers the market is about the same.

 

There are many more problems that exist with 360 Solutions
and I dont have the time to cover them all here.  Suffice it to say, if you are looking for a
business opportunity or franchise, 360 Solutions is not a recommended company.

360 Solutions attracts people that have decided they're ready to start working for themselves. They want to help companies develop leaders because they've seen the difference good leaders can make. The vast majority of successful partners have previous careers in corporate America. They lean heavily on their contacts and prior expertise to get them in the door with prospective clients. 360 Solutions offers them the training and curriculum to put legs underneath their experience. Developing your own curriculum is time-consuming and expensive. Tapping into PhD-developed organizational development research helps get your practice started sooner.

360 Solutions doesn't deny anyone the opportunity to bring leadership development to companies around the world, regardless of background. Sometimes people with no background or experience in leadership think they'll be successful in the industry. Sometimes they are, but many times they underestimate the importance of reputation and experience. While they most certainly could build a strong practice with little or no experience (and it's happened many times), it's significantly harder to do. 

A recent partner of ours is making $100+ this year because she was able to parlay connections she made as a member of her state chamber into customers. Another is a financial professional that added leadership development to his already impressive CPA work. Yet another took his military experience and created a successful practice that targets veteran-owned businesses.

The report against 360 Solutions references a lack of digital and online training. The company has made great strides since the report was written (2012) to increase online and digital curriculum. The company even has an iPad app called "High Performance Leadership" that allows people to view content on the go.

Also, workbooks and physical training materials are far from dead. 360's most successful partners order hundreds of workbooks from a year to work with their clients. They enjoy the ability to jot notes in the margins. And a vast majority of training sessions partners facilitate are in person. Online training just isn't as personal.

I challenge the person who wrote the report against 360 Solutions to look at themselves and see if maybe THEY were the reason their business failed. Part of our curriculum teaches about the Fundamental Attribution Error: our tendency to explain behavior based on internal factors, such as personality or disposition, and to underestimate the influence that external factors, such as situational influences, have on another person's behavior. Sometimes partners that don't have success aren't willing to put in the legwork to make their practice successful.
