I found a house that appeared to be adorable for a great price through 417.rentals. Upon meeting with them, I was told the house had a brand new central heating system, washer dryer hook-ups, and had been newly remodeled. Shortly after moving in, I noticed the heater didn't work. Also, the washer and dryer hook-ups were not functional. I waited over a week for someone to come and change the air filter for the heater. This did not fix the heater. To make a long story short, no one fixed my heater all winter  and I spent over $300 on utility bills in a two bedroom house (electric heaters). My house stayed at about 60 degrees all winter. It took two months to get someone to fix my washer and dryer hookups (which still leak).

I thought that if I threatened to stop paying my rent until the heater was fixed, I might get something accomplished. However, I was served with papers of a civil suit for my rent and late fees BEFORE I even missed the rent payment. When I call Chris about it, he told me not to worry about it and that it was a mistake. I had a bad feeling in my stomach so I went to court anyways. Sure enough, Chris was there, attempting to sue me for my rent and $150 worth of late fees. I paid all of my rent, on time. I had my receipts with me so Chris dropped the suit.  If I hadn't of shown up to court, as Chris instructed me, he would of won the law suit. I felt trapped in this house.

Then, one night around 11 pm, my bedroom ceiling caved in on itself, completely unprovoked. I was in the kitchen or I might of been seriously injured. Over $1000 worth of my possessions were destroyed (musical instruments, computers, etc.). My bed and comforter was covered in mouse feces, and I mean 100's of them. 417Rentals patched up the hole with some sheet-rock and attempted to vacuum up the mess with my vacuum! They did not offer $1 worth of compensation for all of the possessions I lost.  In fact, after I requested to have my rent lowered to compensate for my giant utility bill, lack of central heat (that I was promised), and replacing everything that was destroyed in my room, they responded by telling me they have decided to raise my rent. I didn't understand how that was even legal considering I had a contract with them, but they informed me there is a clause in all of their contracts that states they can raise the rent when ever they want. Thank God my lease is finally over!!!!
