Installer from Hell and Bad Customer Service.

Day 1:

Salesperson arrived on time, was very helpful and installation was scheduled for the next day.

Day 2.

Chris the Manager calls to say that the door ordered with 'obscure glass' was not available. He would not refund the extra cost or replace the glass later and the 3:00 PM installer arrival time was pushed back to "between 4:00 and 6:00".

I was not called again to be told that the installer was running late and each time that I called, I was told that he was on his way. Four calls later, Gary finally arrived at 8:30 PM red-eyed, unshaven, grummpy, defensive, belligerent and 'upselling' from the start without even so much as "Hello" or "Sorry for being late".

Gary cited issue after issue that were not factored into the salesperson's quote. Everything from extra materials, exceptional installation, relocating electrical, etc.. All in chorus with bad mouthing the salesperson and the Company. I sent Gary home after determing that he did not bring all the required materials, parts and tools.

Frustrated, I called the Company at 9:00 PM to cancel the order, but was reassured that 'if given one more chance', everthing would be taken care of the next day. I agreed on two conditions: someone from the Company would inspect by Noon to assure that there were no installation issues; and, Gary would be more customer friendly.

Day 3:

Well, Chris the Manager did not call me, so I called him about 2:00 to be told that everything was taken care of and Gary would be there between 4:00 and 6:00 with a more customer friendly attittude. Well, Gary arrived at 6:30 with the same attitude, but this time he brought a helper...aka, Dumb & Dumber.

Six hours later (12:30 AM) Gary knocks on the door to say he was done. He casually mentioned breaking the garage dome light and that the 'thermal fuse' in my original door opener was the reason why the door would close, but not open??? A blinking red light caught my attention and it took Dumb & Dumber twenty minutes to diagnose a poor connection to one of the sensors???

I found my door opener manual and under Problem Solving determined that a door operating in one direction, but not the other indicated a check of the on/off swithes was called for. In bringing this to Gary's attention, his belligerent demeanor popped up again and I was remined that he was the professional, and that he could sell me a new door opener on the spot for $375 plus installation. I declined the new opener and reluctantly signed the credit card receipt. Dumb & Dumber exited with a passing remark about my lack of tipping as disrepectful to their profession.

In less than five minutes after Dumb & Dumber left, I found and fixed the on/off switch problem to validate my refusal to buy the new opener as the right decision. I also found that Dumb & Dumber had broken a second light outside, installed the bottom door moulding backwards, failed to install the door handle, failed to sweep up the broken glass, flipped cigarette butts in my gravel and used my side yard as a urinal.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

A AAA, Precision, Garage Door Service, etc. still the same song and dance

AUTHOR: PDS Exposser - (U.S.A.)

As to the company reported here, well Precision aka, all the above is still playing the same song and dance routine. I can tell you that some things in this report are a little weird. Some questions the readers are going to want to know to understand this situation. 1) Did you have a door installed or just a glass section? (Note: unless recently started, this company has been picking up doors sold daily as they don't have any where to keep the extra doors, and God forbid they spend a few bucks and don't sell that door for a month or so.) 2) Was this called in as an emergency? If not you should never have allowed an installer to your home after 4PM. 3) On/Off switch? Where did you read this. If your door is opening but not shutting or vise-versa there are several things it could be, from your electric eyes being off-line, to a motor problem to the limits not set right on your motor, well, the list goes on. If this was the problem, you were really lucky. I'm not doubting you, only asking because I've looked through all my material and can't find this to be said in any of it. Maybe you have info from a different manufacture, possible.

Things that should have told you something was wrong, It takes a real professional 1 to 2 hours to install a 16X7 (double car door) w/ a take down and haul away, and about 30 to 45 minutes to install a motor/operator. 6 hours is a bit much even for an idiot. If they did use your yard as a urinal, you should have called the police as this is against numerous codes. (e.g. State health codes.) If the manager told you these guys were subcontractors, he lied. They tell you this so that they aren't liable for damages. Did you sign anything stating that what you didn't have done was a safety hazard and by signing you don't hold the company responsible? Check your order paper and completion paper. This company will pull anything to get you to believe otherwise. They will also deliberately tamper with things so that you have no choice but to call them back as something stopped working. They will charge you as what they damaged, makes it look like the homeowner did.

I do have to defend the installer in some of what was said: As when working for this company, you have no life, no time, no nothing. There is no time to sleep, no time to shave, etc. and they will take everything you have. Been there, done that. They call their installers any, and I mean ANY, time of the day or night. The $375 or whatever he was charging you was probably to do this on the side as this companies going rate is usually $550. One more thing, the installer probably isn't a Professional as this company usually hires kids right out of school and train them for week or so. Being in this profession for 12 years, I can tell you, to truly train someone they need to be trained for one or two months.

Good luck, as this company will do nothing to stop these type of things from happening. In close, did you happen to take pictures of the garage after they left? If so, give your states OSHA a call, they'll love to hear this.
