A Plus Movers Nonexistent customer service! Lies and doubletalk! Confrontational, unsympathetic owner Houston Texas .....

What follows is a copy of a complaint I registered with the BBB in Houston on July 21, 2000 which details my ordeal with A Plus movers. In addition I am pasting some quotes from emails I received from the owner of the company.

I am doing this for no other reason than to warn anyone who may consider using this company to use extreme caution.

As stated in the copy of the contract A Plus submitted to me, they promised to pick up the items to be moved from my residence in St. Louis on July 7th at 10:00 a.m. Upon receipt of a copy of the contract, I submitted a payment for 1/2 of the service of $636.50 one week prior to July 7th. On July 7th, I waited until 12:00 a.m until I made my first phone call to inquire about the whereabouts of the driver. I was told that the driver was to call the office at A plus when he was close to my residence, and that he had not yet done so.

I called several more times, and was informed at 3:30 that the driver was in Joplin, Mo. and had failed a class C inspection. I was told that he was attempting to repair those items that had failed the inspection and that I would be contacted shortly with an estimated arrival time. No one from A plus ever contacted me once the entire day. My wife also spoke with Terrance, left him a number inSt. Louis to contact me and one in Chicago for her, and requested a number to call after hours, but was told to call the number on the contract; that someone regularly checked the messages after hours.

From 4:00-5:30 I called several more times and was forwarded to call notes. I left a message for someone to contact me immediately. No one ever did. I had to drive to Chicago to catch a plane (the reason for the July 7th
pickup date), so I left someone else behind to deal with the driver.

By 12:00 July 8th, neither the person waiting for the driver in St. Louis or my wife in Chicago were ever contacted. My wife called A plus, and after being placed on hold for quite a long time was told by the guy on the phone that he didn't know any thing about it, that Terrance would have to speak to us but wasn't there at the moment.

When we mentioned cancelling the move, Terrance was coincidently walking towards the guy's desk. Terrance informed my wife that the driver was still in Joplin and would need an additional day or two to get his truck inspection ready. No one from A plus ever called us to tell us this. Whenever someone said they would call back in a few minutes, they did not. Consequently, my wife and I decided to cancel the move. Neither the pickup or delivery date weremet, and customer service was nonexistent.

My wife was told to fax a letter stating our intention to cancel and the reason why, and that a reimbursement would follow. The letter was faxed on July 10th, and several inquiries to A plus have been made, but the check has never arrived.

Here are some email quotes from Michael Scherer (owner) I will refrain from placing my responses to Michael in the interests of getting this complaint posted.

"your move was never done and yes you do have a refund coming ,I"m thought of starting a Michael Cornholed website but I'm not going to lower my self to your level"

This one occured after I was told the check was in the mail. "my attorney says not to refund until your little baby attitude clears up,check is on desk and will not be sent until everything you have said and done is retracted, of course you will blame me for this"

"you are blaming me for a truck that broke down on its route, so of course your items did not get pickup on that so called set date, we cannot control acts of god, truck breakdowns, drivers getting sick. and we cannot give a guarenteed date. Yes We will hold up your refund and sue you and your business which we are certifying by letter thru my attorney have your company attorney call me for my lawyers infro. doors are and will stay open"

I distinctly remember being told by an a plus employee that the truck did not pass a class C inspection. Is that an act of god? No!!! It's an owner who can't seem to get his story straight.

STOP! ..before you think about using the Better Business Bureau (BBB)... CLICK HERE to see how other consumers were victimized by the BBB's false or misleading information. Don't be fooled! It has been reported, when there are thousands of complaints and other investigations underway by authorities, the BBB has no choice but to finally give an UNsatisfactory rating to a BBB member business that is paying the BBB big membership fees every year. When a business is reported that is NOT a BBB member, BBB files WILL more likely show an UNsatisfactory rating, then reportedly shake down that company to become a member of the BBB. One positive thing about the BBB is, either way, if a business has an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB, you can be sure, the business is bad. But what about all those BBB member businesses that had complaints filed against them? Consumers never get to hear about them. What about the BBB advertising to the public? Is this a false and misleading perception they are giving about consumer confidence when dealing with a business? Click here to understand more of what consumers and business alike are saying about the BBB. You decide. ..Remember. The BBB membership is not earned, its paid for!
