AA Auto protection (like most aftermarket warranty companies) is a total scam.  In my case I advised them that I have a fifth wheel camper and I do a lot of traveling.  I said I would like some added coverage incase I have a break down.  They said that it would be a great idea and then charged me almost $2200 for the coverage.

14 months later I had a break down and they VOIDED my warranty because I had a fifth wheel trailer hitch in the bed of my truck even though it had absolutely nothing to do with the break down.  The "customer service" advised that if I had a fifth wheel hitch in the bed of my truck then it would automatically void my warranty.  I thought it was shady since I told them BEFORE I purchased the warranty that I had a Fifth wheel hitch!

They claim all their calls are recorded so when I called them on their mistake they said "Oh well our calls are purged after one year".  How convenient since it had been 14 months since the call.  By law they are required to refund me a prorated amount, but since my vehicle was never "valid" for their warranty I requested a full refund.  Of course they claim that they will look into it since I was driving around for 14 months thinking I was covered and now I am stuck with a large repair bill.

Two months after they voided my warranty I still do not have a refund of any kind.  I called their "customer service" to inquire on the status of the refund and they were the rudest people I have ever dealt with in my life, total JERKS.  By far the worst "customer service" I have ever had in my life!  ultimately they said they have 90 days by law to get me my check and they were going to take the full 90 days.  I have already stopped two people from getting ripped off by this company and I hope to stop hundreds more.

In addition to my vehicle being automatically voided, they said it would have been voided anyway because the tires and wheels were not factory, it had aftermarket exhaust, and a drop hitch!  People my truck comes from the factory with a drop hitch and is not available with out a drop hitch!!!  The other aftermarket items were put on at the dealership by the dealership before I bought it!  Basically they are saying we will be happy to take your money even though your vehicle is NOT covered by our warranty.

STAY AWAY FROM AA AUTO PROTECTION

Read the contract before buying!

AUTHOR: Samuel Stephen - ()

POSTED: Saturday, September 14, 2013

I can certainly understand the frustration that the guy with the 5th wheel felt, when his claim was denied for the above stated reasons. However, had he read the contract that he purchased, it would clearly state that certain modifications, not made by the factory (the dealership does not qualify as the factory), would entirely exclude his vehicle from being covered. Having had worked in this business for years, I may have some insight into what really happened here. Once the sales person at AA Auto Protection got the customer's VIN, that would let the sales person know if coverage was available. Then there is a short list of questions asked by the sales person, to the potential customer. Questions like, have you made any modifications to the vehicle that were not installed by the factory? Does your vehicle have a lift kit, modified tires, or is it a Dually? Is the vehicle used commercially? Thins of this nature. The software programs at AA Auto Protection do not allow a "rookie" sales person to accidentally write a contract up, to be submitted to one of their A+ Rated Administrators to approve. Before this happens, the software would kick the prospective customer's service contract out of the system and not accept it. Then, the customer gets a confirmation sent right away, has access to their sample contract, until everything gets mailed to the customer 6-10 days after the date of purchase. These deals go through to the Administrators a couple of times per week, and the ones who are accepted, who truly qualify for coverage, receive a contract #, and then their contract is sent out to them, along with an I.D. Card, Booklet explaining the coverage, info from the finance company (who gives 100% approval and charges NO interest to help people who don't have or don't want to pay in full upfront). So, what I am suggesting, folks, is READ YOUR CONTRACT BEFORE BUYING! If you do not have time to read it before making a purchase, because you were in a hurry, or want to take advantage of some special promotion or sale, then READ YOUR CONTRACT during the 30 day review period. You have a 100% money back guarantee, which is offered by AA Auto Protection, during which the customer can cancel and receive a full refund. After everything goes through to the Administrator, AA Auto Protection, although they are there to help later as a first point of contact, with customer service issues.... but in reality, they are brokers and sell for different Administrators. None of the big Administrators accept certain modified vehicles, rebuilt titles, etc etc... which is standard for any and most, if not all, service contract vendors.

So to not read your contract, which you agreed to pay over $2000 for, that was your first error in judgement. Next, for you to be drivnig an ineligible vehicle based (not on the 5th wheel) but based on modiffications stated clearly in your contract that exclude your vehicle from coverage, and STILL expecting the Administrator to pay for your repairs, is simply not going to happen... and you should have known this had you read your contract

Furthermore, the sales organization which brokered the deal (and probably made $300-$400 in profit from the transaction between you and the Administrator of your contract), most certainly would not pay you back in full after you used 14 months of the coverage up, before wanting to cancel. I do know for a fact that once the Administrator would cut your pro-rated check back to the company (it is in your name, so nobody even COULD keep it anyway), any unused portion of your contract would be sent to you, after calculating your exact refund, minus a small cancellation fee, which again is IN YOUR CONTRACT!

The only reason I am responding here is because there are people out there who DO qualify for coverage, purchase the coverage from AA Auto Protection, or their conpetitors out there, get hooked up with a good, solid A+ Rated Administrator, and I have witnessed hundreds, is not thousands of people get much more paid out in repairs than they invested into the plan.

This is a "Real Deal," and is in no way a rip off. The buyer just really should read the contract before buying. That way, they would have seen that their vehicle did not qualify for coverage, and that this would have been avoided all along. I certainly understand what it is like to not read something, then be frustrated because your logic, you thought, was good enough to reason your way through not having to throw away hard-earned money.... but in this case, if you did get "scammed," in reality you scammed yourself by not reading the contract before purchasing a $2000+ protection plan!

AA Auto Protection is a good company. They are fair and honest, and the Administrators they work with are the oldest and best in this industry. But PLEASE BUYERS, READ A CONTRACT BEFORE BUYING ANYTHING: Your car, your vehicle service contract, your car insurance, your house, your home-owner's insurance, etc etc
