"We don't know what the problem is, we can't figure it out, we can't fix this."

That was literally was said to me in person the second time they "fixed" my car. Terrible service overall. I was literally lied to in person, face to face, on the cost of repair. They repaired a part which did not need to be fixed and charged a ridiculous amount to do it. They even went so far as to charge me for the tow price when it broke down on them during the test drive with their own mechanics. I can't even begin to describe how utterly incompetent this AAMCO Transmissions & Total Car Care location is.  I would advise anyone to steer clear of the AAMCO location in Evansville Indiana.

Here is the complaint that I left with the Better Business Bureau:

Good morning,

I recently received work to my vehicle which was not satisfactory.  On Wednesday January 6th, 2016 my vehicle lost power to the transmission. I called AAMCO because it was the closest repair shop to my location. The guy at the front desk Jeremy seemed friendly enough.  He called back fairly quickly after the vehicle got towed to the AAMCO location stating the problem was caused by the 4x4 selector switch.  After talking to a subject matter expert though I have become aware that this would not have been the source of my problem, but just an easy fix, had they thoroughly inspected my vehicle they would have easily found the real problem. This switch was not functioning properly, but it is a manual transmission vehicle, and by default when that switch fails it just locks the transmission in high and prevents me from adjusting it to low.  I have had this independently confirmed that this was not the source of the problem.  I was out of town for some military training so I was unable to pick it up for roughly a week after repairs had been made. I paid for the repair and took the vehicle out of the AAMCO repair shop on Thursday January 14th.

Sunday night at around 11pm Central Time the same problem occurred again.  I had this vehicle towed to the same AAMCO store.  When they first started the vehicle they had the same problem, however when they lifted the vehicle up they could not recreate the issue. Later in the day on January 18th they literally said they didn't see a problem with it on, but were going to leave it in the shop overnight to see if they could recreate the issue. On Tuesday January 19, 2016 the problem occurred again and the driver testing it at AAMCO had to get it towed back into the shop. I never received a phone call from Jeremy Tuesday stating that it was still having issues.  When I physically went to the store location in person Tuesday after I got off work Jeremy literally stated verbatim "We have no idea what's wrong with it, we have never seen this before, we can't figure it out today."  After asking if they could reimburse me, or cover the rental car expenses he stated that was not within their policy.  Yesterday, Wednesday January 20th 2016 they figured out what the problem was.  It appeared that the CV joint/ driveshaft/ axle broke its retaining pin and was physically coming out. This was causing the loss of power to my Transmission. I literally installed this exact same part in a similar vehicle every single day for a year. I am very aware of the functions of this part and mechanism so I am simply shocked that it took “licensed” mechanics days to figure out.

So basically when I first took it in the AAMCO in Evansville Indiana charged me around $800 for a repair that did not need to be made.  They stated it was fixed then no less than three days later the vehicle broke down on me again. They did not offer me any discount whatsoever, they did not offer to pay or even partially reimburse me on the costs for a rental car for a problem that was not fixed by them the first time, they did not cover the tow price that I paid and demanded I have reimbursed by them for the second tow back to AAMCO after they "fixed" my car, they did not even offer me a military discount which I know your company offers. Keep in mind my vehicle sat in the shop for an additional three days, because your mechanic’s “couldn’t figure it out.”  To top this all off Jeremy charged me for the tow they had to pay for when it broke down on your mechanics doing a test drive. Not the cost I paid directly out of pocket to get it to the shop, but when the vehicle broke down on them! That’s beyond ridiculous. He later said he took it off the bill, but I still paid for it according to the final receipt.  I also have all of my phone conversations recorded.  He stated that the total for the second repair would cost exactly $476.57 this is verbatim to what he stated on the phone.  When I paid the "final" bill last night though it cost me $511 because they tacked the tow charges on top of it. However in person his manager or supervisor told him to just take it off the bill, He did not do this, and I still paid for the tow after looking at the final receipt. So on top of AAMCO being completely negligent in their ability to make a repair, they also lied to me directly face to face. I am literally about to be deployed out of country on a training exercise with the Marine Corps, and I will be returning to active duty for the next 5-6 years. Dealing with utter incompetence like this back home is one of the last things I want to worry about.  This whole issue has caused me over $1200 worth of financial loss over an issue which should have just cost me $476.57 had they fixed the right thing.

To restate this occurred at the AAMCO location in Evansville Indiana.
