Recently (3/6/2014) my 1997 Lincoln Continental’s transmission went out so I took it to the AAMCO at 5695 South Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando, Florida.  The mechanics at the Orange Blossom Trail location rebuilt the transmission in 3 days at a cost of $2561.43.  Less than 4 months later (7/3/2014), the transmission went out again when I was in New Smyrna Beach on my way home from my honeymoon.  I called David at the Orange Blossom Trail location that provide no assistance to me at all.  I then found the closest AAMCO location, in DeLand, spoke to Chris who told me "not to worry about it" and led me to believe that the tow charges would be covered.

Chris, at the DeLand shop, arranged to have my car towed to his shop and told me that the repair would take 6 days. Since this is my only car I need a rental car to get home and to and from work.  Nine days later, at 4:50 pm on Friday (7/11/2014), Chris told me the car was finished.  However, with my work schedule and the shop's limited weekend hours the earliest I could arrange to get the car was Monday (7/14/2014) after work.  This resulted in a total of 12 days of rental car usage at a cost of $593.98.  In addition, I was required to pay a $100 tow charge before the DeLand shop would release my car.

I was unable to find my summary of my car’s repairs from the DeLand shop and havent been able to find it. Chris gave it to me, so I know I have it but haven’t been able to find the document for my records. I called the DeLand shop to see if Chris could fax or copy the copy of the report he possesed but he had mentioned that I need to call the Orange Blossom Trail Shop for that.  ``They did the repair, I just put it in, they will have the report`` he said.  I visited David at the Orange Blossom Trail location and asked him for the report.  He gave me a report but it wasn’t the current repair.  It was the previous.  I told him this was wrong and he explained that the DeLand shop should have that. I mentioned that He (David) should have it because his shot ultimately did the repair and that the DeLand location simply put the transmission back into my vehicle.  I still do not have this report.

Transmissions are what AAMCO is known for - the transmission specialists -  so for my completely rebuilt transmission to quit and need 9 days of repair after only 4 months of use would seem to be an unacceptable level of quality from AAMCO's perspective.  For it to cost me close to $700 and significant inconvenience is unacceptable from my perspective.  When I expressed my concerns to David from the Orange Blossom Trail shop, he was not understanding and offered no help.

I am an hourly worker, newlywed, just starting out so I can't afford such unknown costs.  Part of the reason I went to AAMCO for the repair is the security that it should be done right and I would get years of worry-free use.  Since that didn't happen I am asking that you correct the situation by reimbursing my out-of-pocket costs of $693.98 and protecting me from any future transmission costs with a 3-year/36,000 mile warranty covering all parts/labor/towing/rental car costs.

The chances of you getting any out of pocket money back are slim to none. And chances are your warranty will not be extended. You received a rebuilt transmission with a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. I am very familiar with aamco policy and procedure. They do not cover rentals it is stated in you warranty information on the back of the original invoice you received from shop one. The warranty also does not reset when they fix it under a warranty agreement. aamco offers a 3 year and lifetime warranty which can be obtained at a additional cost. The good news is you have up until the 12 month 12,000 mile warranties expiration to purchase either warranty. I know it's not the ideal thing to do but it's a option. i have seen rebuilt transmissions fail from dealerships at a relatively low time frame so it's not just your case. Whether it is fair or not is up to personal opinion. I can only tell you what I know and the ways I know to go about it. It does suck you have to go through this but it happened and this is basically what you can do in my opinion.
