I'll try to keep to the point.

My Automatic Toyota Tacoma was slipping in first gear and binding in second. I brought it to the shop above. They kept the truck for a week and said there was nothing wrong with it. I knew it was slipping.

They dropped the fluid pan and siad there was brass and beneral peices in the pan. I had them rebuild it. I requested heavy duty parts, they couldn't supply. I supplied the name of a supplier.

AAMCO agreed to use thier parts but only warranty the labor they performed to install them. I asked them to save the old parts.

- 2 1/2 weeks later.

Went to pick up the truck and talked to the Tech. that performed the rebuild. He showed me the old parts, I saw nothing broken, or cracked, or chipped. I asked what went wrong. He said there were signs of heat but nothing obvoiusly wrong. This is now after the transmission was rebuilt and installed. THey charged me over $1300 in labor and misc. parts. Total $1794.38.

Hmmm - think about that.

Now - They take it on 2 test drives, first with low fluid (about a quart as I saw them add). They came back and said it was all fine. I drove the truck home. On the way I heard a tapping that was never there, a growling moan that i could feel throught the floorboards and a couple weird shifts. I returned the truck immediately.

- 2 more weeks
They assumed it was the converter supplied my the heavy duty parts dealer. They returned the converter for testing. I spoke to the parts dealer myself and he admited there was nothing wrong with the part. The replacement part shipment was lost in transit and the parts dealer was shipping another. I inquired what could have been wrong. THe par dealer pointed the finger at AAMCO.

AAMCO called the part dealer the same day I did. I called AAMCO to see what was up. They said the parts dealer was still investigating. They held the truth from me to cover thier own installation mistake.

During this whole process nothing was being accomplishied unless I personally called both parties to keep things straight. I did the job of AAMCO management and scheduled shipments and deliveries.

AAMCO did nothing except shrug thier shoulders every time i called for a status and i had to follow up to keep things moving.

It's now almost 3 months later. I have no truck and they are hiding the truth.

I kept with my part of the bargain (and then some). My check went through. They have my money and they still have my truck in pieces.

Now, don't forget after all this that they originally said nothing was wrong, then said everything was wrong, then said it was just fine and would have lasted.

Now I imagine the will try to duke me for more labor.

Waiting to see. Surely misled, and surely deceptive in the original diagnosis.

David is misleading in his complaint

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, October 17, 2008

I was the manager at the shop when this took place. I can understand David's frustration, however he certainly skewed his facts and how events transpired. First and formost his truck has an aftermarket supercharger installed for an incredible boost in horesepower and torque. Keep this in mind. Yes we had his truck for a week because we could not duplicate his complaint, and he asked that we keep driving it to find something wrong. I never doubted he was having a problem, so I had him take the truck for a ride with a technician in hopes of duplicating the condition he described. Low and behold the problem was duplicated ONLY WHEN DAVID HAD THE GAS PEDAL PRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR (KNOWN AS Wide Open Throttle), CREATING A VERY HIGH STRESS/LOAD ON THE TRANSMISSION DUE TO THE SUPERCHARGER ADDITION. THIS IS VERY ABUSIVE TO A POWERTRAIN! Of course we could not find anything wrong at first because we do not abuse our customers' cars. After explaining this to David (where we also dropped his transmission pan and showed him very basic wear evidence, nothing worth rebuilding a transmission over) and informing him the only way to possibly solve the problematic slipping would be to use heavy duty parts made for such an application, so we both agreed upon a "high performance" rebuilding to hopefully alleviate this problem. Furthermore I explained to him up front that because of the application (the Tacoma and it's stock transmission) NOT being designed for such high performance we would offer no warranty other than on our labor for installation (THAT is why David purchased his own parts). We were constantly talking with his supplier regarding the installation of his parts and the modifications needed for the stock parts. It was a very labor intensive process- look at the cost of a high performance transmission in any magazine. If I remember correctly David spent about $1000 for parts, so $2700 for a hi performance transmission installed is pretty reasonable. After it was rebuilt and installed we tested it and it worked pretty incredibly. The noise etc David was speaking of we (Aamco) felt was a condition of all the changes made, but we looked into it further. Upon speaking with his parts supplier/torque converter supplier it was decided a replacement would be issued as we all felt this could be the culprit (even the supplier). After install it performed exactly the same. I do not understand how he can possibly think we misled him, tho I can understand his unhappiness if he expected his transmission to be as quiet and docile as the stock factory set up.

AAMCO= ALL AUTOMATICZ MUST COME OUT!!!!

David~~~~~Look at past complaints of cottman tranz an these guys for standards of warranty of the civil code that i have written~~~~~~check if applies to your situation~~~~~ i've seen this story before if it wasn't your parts what will it be next???~~~~~since the tranz parts showed heat markz (as they say) ask for the mainline pressure checkz that they performed as part of the diagnostic procedure.~~~~~~~and ask to see the resultz~~~~~~~i'm sure they will say (huh?)~~~~~This is a standard answer of a parts changer.~~~Then ask to see the pressure specz of this unit~~~you will probably git this answer again.~~~~~~~Itz very hard or impossible to repair something you don't understand~~~~You really have a problem right now~~~~unless you show them in writng the civil code sectionz i just gave you any library should have it (civil code book)~~~this might start a fire in the shop to finish this to your satisfaction~~~~~~even if they have to purchase the unit from toyota~~~~~you have performed per their and your contract~~~money has been exchanged~~~most likely they wanted it to burn up again while you had it so they could say~~~~~(d**n i guess those parts burned it upp again) you gotta pay again an we can't warranty it . By the way david the converter will not cause poor shift quality~~~~~it transfers power from the engine to the input of the transmission and turns the drive gear of the oil pump to supply the oil needs of the transmission~~~~~and provides cooler and lube oil to tranz~~~~~if there is a problem with the converter curcuit you hear noise on initial take off this is where metal is generated (it will do this standing still "no" wheel movement) with brake held, under load. Or the lock up clutch has a problem an won't apply properly or disengage at a stop~~~~This problem could be mechanical(internal) or electric (controls/internal leak)~~~~~so david arm yourself with knowledge~~~the rest will be on you as you already know~~~~~~~~THE TRANZMN
