I started doing business with Aarons approximately February 2011.  Always paid on time and paid out 4 contracts that show this on my credit bureaus.  Recently we decided to relocate out of state and I knew there was something in the contract about not being able to remove the property from your delivery address until it was paid in full.  I contacted Aarons in person by going into the store on 11-14-2014 and let them know I was relocating at the beginning of January 2014.  I was helped by an associate Harvey...

I asked Harvey to have the bedroom set picked up on 11-15-2014 because this would be my due date and since I was moving and wouldnt be keeping it I assumed this would be an easy thing to do.  He scheduled them for anytime between 10 am and 3 pm.  They showed up at 10-30 and removed the bedroom set.  Seems like everything went smoothly right?  NOT

My husband started getting collection calls from Aarons so I called and guess who answered?  Harvey!  I asked him why we were getting collection calls and his response was "I dont know, why are you? Do you pay your bills?"

I was instantly furious and asked him for his last name- which he refused.  I asked him to have the General Manager call me........no call.

I asked him for the regional offices number, he didnt know.

I asked him for the corporate offices number, he didnt know.

So I started my own research online.

I contacted the "contact me" number on the website and the man who was helping me was extremely polite but could not find anything about my accounts in his computer.  He didnt have my name or my husbands name in his files, our social security numbers pulled up nothing as well.  I told him I was not letting this drop so he wrote up a report and said someone would call me within 48 hours.

I received a call about 40 hours later (November 21, 2013) from a very nice guy who told me he just had my name and number and had no clue what I needed but he took my complaint.  He said he had called the store and the GM told him I was a good customer but had no clue why I was filing a complaint.  Anyway....this young man assured me that my issue would go to human resources.

On November 21, 2013 I received another email asking me to pay my LATE bill.  I went into the store AGAIN.  General Manager was not in so I left a message and was assured I would receive a call from him when he got back into the store.  He had just "run out for a few".  The clerk also told me that my account had not been closed out until 11-21-2013 and this was probably why I received the email.  I once again stated the items had been picked up on 11-15-2013 and asked for something in writing showing it was returned.  He said there was nothing he could give me but I would definitely receive a return call.  Today is 11/25/2013  still no call or something in writing to show it returned on time.

I followed up with the "contact us" and sent an email to document all of this in case i need it in the future.  So far no response from them either.

BEWARE.............DONT LET YOUR CREDIT SCORE OR YOUR GOOD NAME BE DAMAGED BY THESE PEOPLE.  NO ONE, EVEN AT THE CORPORATE LEVEL SEEMS TO CARE.  They just blow smoke up your xxx to make you think it is resolved.

You know, if I didnt pay my bills or was late I can see some possibility at least for the rudeness and disrespect but I always paid on time!  Very disappointed in a company that I trusted and believed to be worth dealing with.  Boy was I wrong.

DISGUSTED.

Matter resolved

AUTHOR: No fair treatment when you pay on time - ()

POSTED: Saturday, January 18, 2014

I received a letter yesteday from the GM or rather not a letter but at least something stating items returned on time as per contract.  It took 2 months and a lot of hassle to get but I got it.  See attachment.  Not very professional but at least it will work if I were to start getting calls, emails or letters again saying I owed payment.

Filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau

AUTHOR: No fair treatment when you pay on time - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, December 18, 2013

After waiting for the call that never came and once again attempting to speak to someone that would resolve this problem I decided to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.  I filed the report on December 6, 2013.  I had already given Aarons ample time since November 15, 2013 to clear this up on their own but as the days passed I realized they would not unless I continued to pursue it.  The BBB sent the complaint to Aarons and gave them until January 6th to respond.

I received an email yesterday from the BBB that consisted of this: They apologized for sending the wrong receipt and then apologized for my inconvenience and said that they have sent a proper receipt showing it paid on time and returned on time and that it was sent certified mail.  I have not received it yet but I am happy that they appear to be doing the right thing...FINALLY.  Once I do receive it..if I do receive it.. I will update this file accordingly.  Wouldnt it be nice if a company just treated their customers with some respect these days?  All of this could have been averted or resolved if their employees had just done what they were being paid to do and/or their management would have followed up or returned my calls.

Response from Dennis Beard - regional manager

AUTHOR: No fair treatment when you pay on time - ()

POSTED: Friday, December 06, 2013

Darn did not post first time :(

I received a phone call on 11-27-2013 from 228-822-0829 from Dennis Beard, regional manager for Aarons.  He heard my concerns and apologized and agreed that I had been treated inappropriately.  He then asked me what I wanted.  I stated I wanted something in writing showing the items returned at my request prior to my due date.  Attached images will show the envelope and the ridiculous receipt I was sent.  This is dated 11-27-2013 and mailed on December 3, 2013.  No reference to the return date.  To accept this would be to acknowledge that it was returned late.

On December 4, 2013, after receiving the attached receipt, I called the number 228-822-0829 that he had called me from and found it to be a Gulfport, MS location.  The gentleman who answered was very polite and stated that Dennis was probably at the corporate location and had just been visiting his store in Gulfport when he called me.  I asked for the corporate number and was told " I cant give you his cell number"  I responded that I hadnt asked for his cell number but the corporate location where he could be reached......no surprise...all the sudden he didnt know the corporate number either. (this is obviously a secret and not available to any locations since none will give it to you when you ask for it)

He did offer to pass on a message and said that Dennis was great and probably it was a misunderstanding on what I needed.  I was told he would call me back.

December 4, 2013 no call

December 5, 2013 no call

December 6, 2013 not expecting a call but hopeful.

Please see attached receipt and total lack of professionalism.  Note it is dated November 27,2013 and not November 15, 2013 when items were returned at my request.

Still receiving "past due" letters despite supposed resolution

AUTHOR: No fair treatment when you pay on time - ()

POSTED: Sunday, December 01, 2013

Sigh...........Just received another letter dated 11-21-2013 stating they are interested in keeping me as a customer and have been unable to reach me by phone...I will be happy to produce phone records indicating this is completely untrue.  These records will also indicate the amount of times that I have contacted them and the times I have attempted to contact them.  BTW still no response from the GM who just "stepped out for a few".

I did receive a call from someone stating they were a ''regional manager" from 228-822-0829 on 12-26-2013,  He asked me what I wanted them to do and I stated quite simply just provide me with something in writing showing that the items were returned BEFORE my payment was due and prior to all of this nonsense.  I again explained that it was absolutely ridiculous that someone who always paid on time would have to go through all of this to resolve something that their lazy credit manager, Harvey, could not.  I did assure him that I will be calling again if I dont receive the letter. Which he said I would. I have also decided to send a certified letter as well as follow up with the Attorney Generals office.  Maybe fines and complaints will get them to start dealing with the public in a proper and professional manner.

I had never dealt with a company that "rents to own" before this and my reasoning for doing so was because they had a better quality on a washer and dryer I was looking for than Lowe's, Kmart and Walmart (my local options) did.  When their previous manager Bill was there I never had an issue.  He was awesome and gave me his card and cell number just in case I needed it after I complained about Harveys rudeness shortly after he was hired.  The new GM has not had the courage to face this issue.....still dont know his name because Harvey could not "give out that information".
