Action Appliance Fort Collins Charge too much; not reliable; not accountable Fort Collins , Colorado

We realized Monday afternoon (December 31st) that our fridge was not working; we called Action Appliance because we wanted to get a quote and decide if it was worth fixing it. A technician showed up and said he would fix it right away if we paid $600 (plus for $75 to show up).

We agreed because he was going to do it right away--we had so much food in the fridge and the next day was not a business day. He wanted to charge us right there before he fixed the fridge, which should have been a warning sign for us. But he was a student, it was a new year's evening and we even gave him dinner. After hours, he said he could not do it; but he would come back at 9:00 am and fix it then.

We gave him multiple calls in the morning, he said he was on his way each time. He finally showed up at 12:30 pm with another two guys. By that time, we had to throw away so much food because the fridge was not cold at all. They spent some time and at the end they said it was all fixed. He wanted to charge; we said but we agreed for that high price because it was going to be fixed the same night. They said we need to talk to the manager about it; we paid them the full price.

Hours later, we realized that the fridge was not getting colder but only warmer. We called the office. It was already after 5:00 pm. There was no answering machine. Nobody responded.

The next morning we called again. They said a technician was going to show up, which he did four hours later. He spent another two hours just to tell us that he needed some tools that he did not bring with him. He left.

At that point we called the office and requested refund. We were never able to talk to the manager; the secretary was totally rude. She sounded very experienced though so apperantly they get similar calls. She kept blaming us (like we called on the new year's evening) and said there is nothing they can do. We said we are going to claim a suit, they agreed to pay $100 back.

The next day, another technician showed up. By that time, needless to say, we had already thrown away everything. We had no food left; could not leave the house either because we were waiting for the technician.

Four hours later, he said he fixed it. The fridge is still not cool and I have no faith that it will get cooler. Even if it did, this was still a nightmare: We wasted four days and countless hours on the phone; we lost $200 worth of food; and paid them $675. We did not even receive an apology.

In sum: They charge too much; they are not reliable; they are not accountable; they unplug the phones not to hear the complaints and they charge you before the service and run away.
