Just wanted to share my experience with AFF. In my opinion for this site to possibly work you need to:

1. Not be a Single Male.

2. Join with a Gold Membership.

3. Be able to offer a world of goods.

4. Be ready to invest several months of time.

I do not think that Single Men are in big demand for relationships on AFF and probably make up the majority of the members. One girl (and the only) who contacted me had 542 guys listed as her friends. 542 guys! How can you possibly maintain any type of relationship with 542 people? I was curious so I became #543 just to see what would happen. Not much. She winked at me a few times, sent, by code, her Yahoo IM, and we exchanged one volley each on IM.

I contacted several girls all of whom were said to be active (I did see some "Online Now") and within a few miles of my area. None replied back. One girl wrote that she was new to New York and was looking for a tour guide. I work in that field and am studying to obtain my own license. I wrote to her and explained as such but she never wrote back.

You can meet all the parameters, wants, likes, needs, etc., and write them a letter explaining all that you have in common but you will not receive any reply. It's really not any different from most other "regular" online dating sites.

When I joined the first thing I did was to turn "OFF" the automatic renewal system and I took a picture of the screen to prove it was indeed "OFF". It wasn't too difficult to find the section to do so but I think Automatic renewal needs to be "OFF" always and turned "ON" if you want and not the other way around.

I found the elite "Gold" membership a little annoying. Just make it one price for everything. Those who went "Gold" seem to be seen as "more serious" in their search as if you are not serious by just being a "Silver" member. You get more goodies by being a "Gold" member. Just a ploy to up-sell.

The one thing I really didn't like is after going through the entire sign up process filling out your profile, searching through endless ads, finally finding a person who was on recently, when you start to write an email you are told it can not contain any personal information until after two exchanges each. What? Isn't that the purpose of joining the site? We are told this process is to protect against people who might try to spam. Yeah, okay.

If you are a Couple, a Group, or Female you will have an easier time finding Couples, Groups, and Females. As for Single Guys, such as the 542 who were all friends of ONE girl, you might just be spinning your wheels.
