I currently work for an Advance auto parts store in Columbus, Ohio. I have been employed there full time for more than 2 1/2 years. I just recently got my ASE certification which is a standardized test in the automotive industry.

I was completly happy with my job for the first year or so until we were assigned a new store manager. This new store manager did not like the fact that I was also a full time student so he decided to transfer me to another store along with a few other employees that he either did not like or just rather did not agree witht the way he did things. He also hired in some of his friends to take their places. In short this is a bad management practice that should have been stoped in its tracks by the district manager, but never was.

When I got transfered I was an assistant manager in training and hoping to some day move up in the ranks. After I got to my new store I was no longer in mangement. Advance makes you pay for uniforms, which is not that big of a deal but since I no longer had my old shirts I had to re-buy the orginal ones.

I am now at my new store and am still a full time employee. Until lateley. The district manager said that our store had to cut some hours for payroll. Last week I was the only one cut and my hours went from 40 to 22. This week there were two people cut one went from 32 to 17 and i went all the way down to 0 hours. My boss then asked me if I would like to take some vacation time to offset this. Because I am a student I have no choice and have to pay the bills.

There have been many other people that I have worked with that share the same opinions as me. In short, a word of advice to anyone that reads this. Never work for this company and make the mistake that I did. If you have no other choice and do work there, you must negotiate your pay at the begining because you will only get a small cent raise each year. However they are now a fortune 500 company and have 2500 stores. Lot's of money for them but not for their employees "The ones that got them where they are today"

I also work for Advance and unfortunately, the store management and the DM are a joke. Way too much drama and weak management practices involved. For some people, maybe this would be a god company, especially if you are interested in becoming a corporate kiss a** and a member of the Good Ol' Boys club. Our store has five, yes five, management personnel and four part timers. Everything changes from week to week with the schedules and what we are promised. Morale is awful, theft is a big issue, and I can't wait to find another job. I am sure there are stores with good management and to those, I wish you well. For the rest that are subjected to this company's outdated employment practices, do yourself a favor and move on.

I also am a full time student and work for Advance Auto Parts!! I have been with the company for almost 7 years and think it is a great place to work!!! My manager and Dm are both great about my school and have always helped me any way they can. I also have type 1 diabetes and have to take off for dr appt. alot and they are very understanding about that. For anyone looking for a job dont pay any mind to this guy Advance is a great place to work!!!!
