I moved to Tampa, Florida on January 10, 2003. Prior to leaving Berea, Ohio, I got online and did extensive research on moving companies. After receiving several quotes, I chose to use Adanced Moving Systems when they quoted me $1375.00.
The cubic foot was 550cuft at 2.50 per cubic foot. This is all they quoted me. After the movers loaded the truck, the driver handed me a copy of the contract showing that I owed an additional $2400 for Interstate driving and $280 for packing materials. I argued with the driver and he told me to call the office and get it straightened out...that they were really good about fixing these type of mistakes.
I had to give them a $2000 deposit and the remaining $2050 was due upon arrival. I called Sean Bar to rectify this problem and he said he would take care of it with his supervisor. He also told me to write a $2000 check for the deposit because their credit card machine was broken. I told him that my checking account was going to close and I needed to put it on credit card. He said he would not cash the check, but would run my credit card after the machine was working.
After numerous calls to Sean, he still had not talked to his supervisor and now he will not return my calls. I spoke to his supervisor, Ralph and he said that I had to pay this bill and they do not take credit card payments anymore. He said that he would not deliver my goods until I paid the entire $4050.
Since this time, I've called numerous times and spoke to "Johnny Cash" and was told that Sean was not in or was with another customer. Also, when I get to speak to someone and ask for their name, I'm told that it is none of my business. I'm not getting any return phone calls and at this point, I do not know where my goods are and I'm worried that I'm not ever going to see my things again.
I would like to go ahead and pay this in full to get my things, and then file a claim and contact a lawyer; however, I can't seem to get anyone at this office to speak to me.

Kay,
I , and others who have been ripped off by Advanced Moving, thank you for keeping us apprised of the government's long anticipated legal action on the nefarious moving comp[any. I, for one, applaud your perserverence in providing advice on new victims on how to inform the right folks on their rip offs. I, for one, would be more than willing to testify against Advanced Moving. And yes, I too was interviewed by the FBI and provided extensive documentation for their case files. Let's do what we have to do to bring justice and compensation for all of us who have experienced losses in our relationship wit Advanced Moving.
Sincerely,

ended up paying the whole $4055.00 Sunrise, Florida - Rip-off Artist

Just an update on my situation. I ended up paying the whole $4055.00. On Feb. 7, 2003 I finaly received my belongings after almost a month of waiting and frustation from calling this company. Most of the boxes were in poor condition. Most of them were wet and crushed. I have no idea where they stored it to be in that condition. All of my furnitures were either scratched or broken. They also made damages on my apartment trying to bring in my couch and lovesit.
They also did not re-assemble my bed and dining table eventhough it was part of the contract. I was given an excused that they have not done that. I ended up calling the office and was promised that it will be done. So much for their word. It doesn't mean a thing. The driver was rude to me. He insisted that I sign the contract stating that I have received everything and were all in good condition. I refused to do so. He left without me signing it.
I took pictures of all my belongings before I unpacked them. I contacted a local news station who recently did a report investigation on a moving company. Hopefully I get a response on steps I need to do. I also contacted a lawyer about and was told that there were some new laws passed for moving companies. I will update my case in the future. I will be interested to join or start a class action against Advanced Moving System.

too cheap

first of all I would like to say that its ashame what happend. BUT and i wright but in capital letters, if you search for the cheapest price out there, there is no such thing.
When searching for a company to move you dont look for cheap look for a company that is giving you a price that is realistic. what I am trying to say is its your own fault for getting screwed by moving companies online. people search for the best price yet they never think that the price they are given is outragously to low. Next time move by yourself.
