I sent a poem into Famous Poets Society & they sent me a letter back that said they were going be publishing my poem in book called "Poetic Odyssey". The letter said to send so much this & so much for this & I did, all together I've sent them a total of $83.95 { It might sound like much but hey in my life every penny counts}.

The next letter said that I should be receiving the books I ordered by October {they didn't specify I date}, well it is now November I haven't received the books. I was starting to think that someone returned them but if you that they are thieves I don't know.

I got a letter about convention in Vegas but I wasn't to attend. I recently got a letter of them requesting to send in another to be published. In this letter they also requested for to send in for my "Prometheus Muse Trophy"{$69.00} & money for my "2001 Poet of the Year Medallion" {$39.00}. {It said they also send a free "I'm their most famous to-shirt { but the shipping & handling would be $2.95}.

If they won't publish my poems or send my what I pay for { my books }. I would like to get my money back. I was scared to send poems that I've written because I was terrified of rejection { & getting ripped-off } but my friends finally talked me into taking the plunge & I do.

Now for your web-site I'm starting to have doubts that I'm good enough to published. I don't know I'll ever send anymore of poems or writings in again to any publishing company. How can we tell if it is a real publishing company of if it's a rip-off? Please e-mail me back as soon as possible & tell what I should do?

Sincerely,
Tina Moore

THEY PLAY ON YOUR EGO

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 05, 2010

This is one of the oldest scams in publishing and it works just li\ke any other con --by telling you what you want to hear.

They tell you that you are talented, brilliant, gifted and blah blah blah and for you to keep that money coming in.

By the time you realize it is a con, they have taken money from you that you will probably never see again and who knows how long it was before you wised up and realized that book was not going to come.

This company might be out of business or even changed their name but the con is the same.

You are lucky you were only conned out of $90 more or less, because I have heard of people who lost hundreds.

Stay away from these scams.

They filed the following to the above Rip-Off Report:

Their name: The Fraud Chick

Their relationship to the company: Advocate

Rebuttal:
Sounds like you've got yourself hooked up in a poet con. I'm happy you don't plan to attend the "convention." This is where these sleazes really make money. They charge anywhere from $200 to $3,000 for you to attend these events. They gouge you for e medal you supposedly "won" and certificates, books, ad nausea. A real publisher wouldn't charge you to publish work, they pay *you*.

Report what's happened to you to the attorney general's office in the state this scam company operates out of. Let them know you paid for a book you never received.

Since you want to publish let me also warn you about bogus "agents" and "readers." These people contact you and offer to read your work or become your agent for a fee. Usually $20 to $100. Next time don't let your friends talk you into things like this.

Take care; you are now on a suckers list. Be prepared to receive
telemarketing phone calls and more mail solicitations to publish more poems. Don't fall for them. Hang up or throw the mailers away.

Good Luck
The Fraud Chick
