Purchased this short-term disability insurance policy while employed by an AFLAC- sponsored institution; this company is rolling in money and spends it freely on stuffed DUCKS, promotional doo-dads and sales, sales, sales...

I paid premiums faithfully for x years, made one simple claim which was covered without question and honored without difficulty. (Being single with no other income source, it pays to be prepared for short-term illness since nobody else is paying the bills!)
A few years hence (2010) and a very valid claim was denied. After receiving pointless letters (denials) from the Company, some demands for information, and petty threats from the Claims Department, I insisted the policy be canceled. I received a partial refund for premiums paid over the period in question. I put Aflac out of my mind although I still insist they owe me approx $5,000. I thought that was the END.

Flash forward just weeks after this fiasco ended. (I remain disabled, without income, receiving food stamps, and waiting for invisible Social Security Adjudicator to appear.) Today I received yet ANOTHER mysterious letter from Aflac-- although I thought I was a FORMER customer with a CANCELED policy! and yet... it turns out, they have "received a claim on the policy listed above" ... and will process the claim(s) within 14 days!!"  Isn't that NICE??

Abject incompetence AND efficiency in one crisp, first class letter.

It's difficult enough to be 'down' and out, broke and sick, dependent and angry, borderline BITTER. If these people insist on harassing me through the mail, I will turn to Federal Law to insist the abuse is stopped. It sickens me how they hide behind their cute little DUCKS, and toss dollars into the Aflac Cancer Centers so the world will think better of them. Not nice, Dan.

had aflac, premiums were very affordable, then I needed back surgery,   AFLAC came through with flying colors !!!!!!    HOWEVER WITH THAT SAID,   Their billing dept is run by a bunch up incompetent twits,  I tried paying my premium via personal check while I was recovering,   several months later, i get a (aflac ) check from them  stating that they could not allocate the funds in question as the payment was made with a personal check, ( which they cashed) they could only accept a company check....... ( i was not on payroll at the time) this went back & forth for several months and I finally told them to cancel the whole thing  I dont know how they stay in business

Your post is without merit

You don't know what you are talking about.  Aflac spends money on ducks, huh?  Ever bother to read the tag on those ducks?  They are fundraisers to support the Children's Cancer Center.

I've had Aflac disability for 9 years.  In that time, I've had to put in 2 claims, and there was no problem.  This company is NOT a scam, or a rip-off.   You didn't get your claim paid?

I guarantee that:

1.  Your disability was not covered (READ your policy...bet you didn't do that either.)
2.  You didn't fill out the form correctly.  (It's one paragraph; can you even write?)
3.  Your doctor didn't fill it out properly.
4.  You didn't ask for assistance (every state has a more than enough associates, managers, etc, who are happy to assist you.  Did you ask for any help?

So you say your claim was 'very valid'.  According to whom; YOU?  Then why wasn't it paid?  If we coudl sit down and actually look at the facts, I'd bet every dollar I have that YOU are WRONG.  And the Claims Dept doesn't issue 'petty threats'.  What threats...did they say they were going to slash the tires on your car?

Posts like yours make me sick to my stomach.  It's not Aflac's fault that you didn't educate yourself as a youngster, go to college, sacrifice short term in order to secure a good education and therefore be able to get a well paying job.

Folks like you LOVE to play the victim.   It's always someone elses fault.  You claim Aflac owes you $5000.  And this is why you are so destitute?  Honey, I got a news flash for ya:  if $5000 is all that is standing between you and 'the good life', you aren't playing with a full deck.

I'm sure you've had a life in which you made bad choices, were lazy or selfish, didn't plan for your future, and constantly felt as if the world owes you something.  It doesn't.

Oh, and by the way, Aflac 'tosses dollars' into the Cancer Center so they can help SAVE CHILDREN'S LIVES.  What are YOU doing to make the world a better place?  Whining and complaining?  Don't blame the owners of Aflac for being successful.  They don't even ADVERTISE their astounding success rate in curing youngsters who are terminally ill...instead they quietly go about helping families...and don't make a dime of profit from it.

Get off your big fat behind and do something for someone else instead of moaning about your own predicament.

Joy,

I'm sorry you've had such an unpleasant experience with Aflac.  I wish I could give you some direction, or even help you understand how and why your claims have been denied, but I can't really help with the general statements made in your complaint.

What was the nature of your claim?  What was Aflac's reason for denial?  Did the statements from your employer and physician match your claim form?  there are a host of technical reasons that a claim can be denied, and this is where your agent should help.  Did you contact them to see if there is anything they can do?

Steve
