My present employer dropped their short term long term disability insurance which they paid for and instead chose to use Aflac which is paid for entirely by each employee through payroll deductions.

so on 05/16/2006 I signed up for Aflac and during the interview with the Aflac agent I was told that an employee could only recoup 70% of his normal 40 hour wage, however to get this total benefit an employee had to pay for an additional "RIDER" which I did, and the receipt given to me shows the rider as selected and the amount of $1900.00 per month in addition to the minumum payment of $1500.00 offered through the normal plan.

as fate would have it I ended up going into the hospital for heart surgery on 04/17/2007 and I am presently on disability so when I filed all the necessary paper work I was amazed to see that Aflac was only paying me the minimum or $1500.00 per month. so I faxed the customer service a copy of my receipt showing the additional rider I took out that covers 70% of my normal pay or an additional $1900.00 per month. I also informed them that I have all my paycheck stubs showing the deductions were paid in full to date.

Aflac answered that they have no record of any such claim and that they were sorry but all I was going to receive is the $1500.00 per month as the basic plan allows, needless to say I am very upset with Aflac number one the redundant paperwork you have to have your doctor fill out is ridiculous. you have to get it filled out by your doctor and then your employer, and then if you don't get a release to work you have to file a continuance form which has to be filled out by all parties involved.

I don't know if I can take any action against Aflac, I just think the general public should be warned about Aflac's willingness to cheat its customers at every chance they can.
