Show customers why they should trust your business over your competitors...

I recieved a call from AFNI  Collections.  They said they were attemptiing to collect two different debts from 1999.   One was for $483.00 from Sprint PCS.  The other was for T-Mobile for $335.00.  First of all, the only time I ever had a SPRINT PCS account was when i worked for them.  Secondly, Isnt statute of limitations for 7 years???  Its been 12!!  Neither of these have showed up on my credit report.  I WAS about to pay these, until I heard the phone message that i could handle my account on line. So, i typed in AFNICOLLECTIONS.COM   Lo and behold, all of these Ripp off reports showed up!  Thank you for fileing these,  you saved me a lot of money!!!

FYI

You better check your credit report....AFNI specializes in placing old debts like these on credit reports.

If they've done this, file complaints with the Illinois Attorney General against them.

Some ducation on AFNI, and also on SOL by state

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

The first thing you need to realize is that AFNI are ONLY "third party" debt collectors. They are NOT "attorneys". I say this because you posted in the Attorney category instead of the debt collector category.

The second thing you need to educate yourself on is that ONLY the credit reporting statute of limitations is 7 years, which has nothing at all to do with the statute of limitations on the actual legal enforcement of debt collection through the civil process.

Individual states have different SOL's that range from 3 to 15 years, but none are 7 years.

STAY OFF THE PHONE!!

Never speak to any third party debt collector on the phone. Doing so can ONLY hurt you, as even discussing a payment could be considered validation of the debt restart the SOL which would enable them to sue you.

Send these idiots a CEASE COMMUNICATIONS request as per your rights under the FDCPA which you can obtain at the FTC website.

Send this request by certified mail, return reciept requested. Be sure to put the certified# in the body of the letter itself, and keep a copy for your records. This procedure is VERY important as it proves exactly what you sent. And, most important, do not sign the letter as your signature could end up on a "contract". Not uncommon with these lowlife.
