Afni sent me a collection letter for a disconnected phone line in another state. The collection letter has my maiden name which I have not used in 7 years.
When I called to try and solve the problem the customer service person accused me of lying and told me it was her job to make these kind of assumptions! I have lived in the same area my entire life and have had utilities in my name since I was 18 and job tax forms to prove I was living and working in another state than where they are claiming I had a landline.

After my very clear explanation I was accused of lying because the woman said she checked the phone records and there were calls made to the city I live in now from the phone number they are saying I used then.

Extremly inappropriate customer service please help. What do I do to fix this?

Carolina, DO NOT confuse Debt Collectors with Customer Service!

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 03, 2007

Carolina,

Debt Collectors ARE NOT CUSTOMER SERVICE!! This confusion should be cleared up right now.

These bottomfeeders ARE NOT representing Verizon or anyone else. They are representing themselves as JUNK DEBT BUYERS. They bought these old, legally UNCOLLECTABLE "debts" for far less than a penny on the dollar.

The problem with these old "accounts" is that they have little or no information on the actual debtor. This is why everyone with the same or similar name as the original debtor gets the calls and collection letters. And, the poor person who currently is lucky enough to have that phone number now.

Debt collectors have ONLY one goal, and that is to separate you from your money. They have absolutely no concern for you, or helping you in any way.

NEVER call, or speak to ANY debt collector on the phone. It will NEVER do anything positive for you, and will almost always make things worse.

And, they lied to you when they said they checked your phone records. They do not have access to those. That was a flat out lie by a crackhead bottomfeeder. That is exactly why you NEVER speak to ANY debt collector!!

Demand that all communications be only in writing.

Go to ftc.gov and file a complaint online for the illegal collections activity.

Read my other responses in other collection threads on how to send a DEBT VALIDATION request.
