Agero Progressive insurance roadside assistance Promised abandoned false danger ignored never arrived flight costly Nationwide
I was taking my daughter to the airport catch a flight for a three month long trip to Africa. We were traveling in the dark of night as her flight was in the morning and we live three hours from airport. About 50 miles away our tire blew out. The car was packed but luckily we had the spare. In sub freezing temperatures and in the dark I got out to attempt my first ever tire change. However after removing every item I realized we had no jack.
Fortunately we we had Progressive insurance and I paid for the roadside assistance which covered tire changes. And we still had several hours before the flight departed. I called and gave the information and was assured that a service provider would contact me with an estimated arrival time within 15 minutes. After hf an hour with no contact I called back. I was told they had just found someone willing to take the run and he was a town over so to be patient. ( we were on a main interstate)
after no one came or called agsin I called and was told they had transposed the mile marker numbers and he determined we were out of his territory. Hours of back and forth passed and the agent insisted that help was coming. We called the airline to see if arriving later than the check in time would cause boarding to be denied. Long story short is after 4 hours it was becoming daylight, the battery was dead from the flashers and we two women were still stuck snd being lied to about help coming. We could have called a cab had we not been assured by the agent thst someone was coming. Eventually I got out to relieve my bladder and a state trooper appeared. He changed the tire and jumped the battery Now on a donut spare and with less than an hour to takeoff I raced at speeds beyond the recommended max for the spare. We arrived as the plane took off. The ticket was lost because they had a seat later that day to dc. For a $50 change fee. However once in dc South African air flies the 17 hour long flight once per day and she would arrive in dc after her flight to Africa was gone. And they couldn't get her on another for three days. An entire new ticket had to be bought to dc, the 16 hours we spent trying to get to the airport were wasted and the South African flight had change fees. I called agero once the travel crisis had been figured out and they were very nice. They agreed to compensate for costs incurred and wanted the receipts. I had the receipts for the original flights and tire but my daughter was a walk up without reservations and she had the information but I couldn't reach her in Africa. They assured me that upon her return we could solve it. However when I contacted them again they acted as if they'd never spoken with me and rudely refused to compensate a cent. I was left with a peace of mind for having roadside assistance and believed they would assist. Had I not had it I would have had my daughter in a cab but I was assured prompt service. It was no service and no concern for the damage caused.
