My A/C stopped working, so I searched the net and located AirCool, a local A/C repair shop in Houston, TX. A technician by the name of Lloyd came to asses how much he was going to rip me off. He looked at the compressor and said it was "bypassing", then hooked-up his guages to it and said it was normal. Then he said I bet your evaporator coil is dirty, causing a freeze. When he looked at the evaporator coil, it was clean on both sides. Then he said it needed to be replaced since tubes may be clogged. I said how much is this going to $$$$. Then he gave me an appropriate answer somewhere around $1300 to $1500 somewhere around there. I said well, try to keep it under a grand.

He then turned on the outside unit and was making a squeeling noise, and he said that the compressor was bad, an needed to be replaced, since it was bypassing and his guages just confirmed that with a spike he did not notice before. He said that we should replace the compressor since its still under warranty. I said great!!, They got everything hooked-up and running. I got the bill and was shocked at the price, $958.00 for a warranty job. $350 dollars for freon, $550 dollars for labor, $28 dollars for a filter, and $70.00 for the actual part that needed to be replaced. Now the A/C line coming from my compressor is frozen, and I can't get them to come back and fix-it, even though their receipt says 30 day warranty on work.

Unfortunate situation

To whom it may concern:

It sounds to me like you got a square deal, buddy. Lloyd is (was) a salaried employee with absolutely no motivation to "rip you off".

Furthermore, if it froze up- his first diagnosis of a clogged line was accurate.

What really bears mentioning is that the previous installing HVAC company (don't know who they are) oversized your condensing unit, causing the compressor failure initially. The evaporator lines additionally were clogged. (Not our fault) It is unfortunate.

As a highly skilled quality AC company we are often called upon to fix others mistakes.

There is no warranty on you old mis matched evaporator coil thats causing the problem. I hope you have resolved this problem with the original installing AC
company that mis matched your condensing unit to your evaporator coil.

We recommended you buy a new evaporator coil that matched the tonnage of size matching your condensing unit that we had to prematurely warranty the compressor on.

The price you paid for a warranty replacement was accurate and fair considering we had to recycle the refrigerant and it's a very labor intensive job.

We will be happy to sell you a new system properly sized for your home.

Thank you for your business,

Sorry for your headache(s) we did the best we could by you.

I understand $1000 is alot of money, but without that you would have had air conditioning.

Because we care we will give you a credit of $1000 towards a new system puchase.

God bless and good wishes,
AIRCOOL
