This is the worse company to order a book from. I tried to order my textbooks through these people when school started. And it all seemed great from the beginning. They emailed me (I don't know how they got my email address) but i'm assuming that it was some mass mailing geared for students right at the beginning of the school year.

And every year I pay over $350 for books. So I went to their site and it was like a dream come true. They've got all these books you need and they're advertising them. So I did the calculations and realized that if i ordered 4 of my books from here that if I waited a few days for my order that it would a little cheaper than buying my books at the bookstore. But I had to buy in bulk to maximize on the savings. So I ordered, and they didn't waste anytime taking the money off my credit card and they emailed me the next day to tell me that some of the books I needed wouldn't be there.

So I wanted to cancel my order and I just went and bought my books at the bookstore instead. They emailed me later saying that it was two late to cancel the order even though on my order receipt shows the shipping date wouldn't be until the next day. Turns out that they just advertise for a bunch of products they don't have and will never have.

So my order of 4 books came down to being 1 book and with the shipping fees that I paid on the one book I had actually paid more than if I would have bought it from the bookstore.

Not to mention that I received my book a week after I ordered it. So I coughed up the money to send the book back. They emailed me saying that they had received the book late. Turns out that they say you can keep the book for 14 days before you get a refund but those days don't include the 7 days that it takes for you to actually receive the book and postal travel from texas to new york.

So they emailed me saying that they had gotten the book and it was late so if I didn't respond withing 48 hours that they would send the book back to me. I emailed them back the same day and told them that I didn't want the book and I wanted my money put back on my credit card and explained everything that I explained to you in the email.

They claimed that they never got the email, which is a lie because i have a copy of the all the out mail in my aol mailbox saying that it was sent and a copy of the message. So they send me back the book anyway and of course I'm pissed when I get this book back. Not only did i over pay for this book and shipping fees, but I have 2 of the same book.

You can forget contacting this company by phone because this bootleg company does have a phone number, a fax, no customer complaint address. or anything else but an email, and they will deny getting your emails.

STUDENTS IF YOU ARE NOT RICH AND CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY MORE THAN THE BOOKSTORE PRICES DO NOT DEAL WITH AKADEMOS or TEXTBOOKX.COM. Deal with Barnes and Noble, Buy.com, or Amazon. I have ordered books from all these copanies and they're great, they might be high, but they are a reputable company

...this is one arrogant company soon to be out of business

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Thursday, October 25, 2001

This email is a rebuttal to RipOff #7333.

It was sent by The Fraud Chick at TheFraudChick@aol.com.

Akademos.com or CollegebookSwap.com you will be ripped off (#7333)

They filed the following rebuttal to the above Rip-Off Report:

Their email: TheFraudChick@aol.com

Their name: The Fraud Chick

Their relationship to the company: Consumer Suggestion

Rebuttal:

Now this is one arrogant company soon to be out of business. Here's what you do:

Send *both* books back the return address. Mail them registered mail, not too expensive and it does the trick. Then file fraud charges with your credit card company for "deceptive practices" and charge back those charges. It's *your* money, not theirs.

Send a letter back to them that outlines the fact that you do not

appreciate their deceptive way of doing business, therefore they have violated *your* policy of fair business practice. Point out that their book came seven days into the fourteen days and that they now have their books back and all is now settled. DO tell them that if they intend to pursue the matter that you are open to filing mail fraud charges with the US Postal Inspector's office. Again, seven days into the fourteen days is a deceptive practice.

Finally, warn all of your friends.

Good Luck

The Fraud Chick
