Zipped home for a quick lunch-break and I get a phone call...the number is recognizable at this point because it's the same number I'm seeing on my caller ID 5 times a day for the last week! 866-811-5719. I answer, say hi, they ask for my wife (name withheld). I ask who it is andwhat it is regarding, as is my custom.

The representative identifies himself as John with Alliance One and says, "Gee you ask a lot of questions! Tell you what, I'll just call back tomorrow morning." I say, "Don't bother." and hang up.

Out of curiosity I call the number back, and sure enough the same guy answers the phone saying "Alliance One!", and I promptly hang up. Intrigued, I go back to work and do a web search with just the name "Alliance One" and www.ripoffreport.com shows the name with relevancy of abotu 95% on google's search engine. So now I'm really curious!

I read about 5 articles, call the number back and a gentleman identifying himself as Roger answers the phone. I tell him that I'd like his organization to stop calling my house, he responds by asking my phone number. No harm there, really, I give it to him. He says they're looking for (my wife's name) but they can't release any information to me.

So then I test the waters..."I'm her husband." "OH! Ok, then we're calling to collect a debt from Capital One credit cards (my wife never had one of those, for the record)".

Here's the first point that makes me know this is fraudulent: Any collection agency with sensitive financial information on anyone is required by law to verify the identity of any public or private entity that requests that information before releasing it in part or in entirety. He didn't even ask my name. I could have been any John Q and they'd have just given me the amount owed, account number, and anything else I wanted to know.

Rank amateurs.

So I ask him if he's ever heard of ripoffreport.com, inform him that there are over 15 entries on the web site regarding people that they've fleeced, and told him that if the calls didn't stop--He cuts me off saying "Oh yah, oh really, what are you going to do?" Very unprofessional for a debt collection company...the second point that makes me know this is fraudulent. No reputable debt collector will at any point become rude or abusive like that on the phone--I know, I've dealt with the worst of the bunch...Student Loan Collectors.

Why it pays to know something before you speak--

AUTHOR: Useddelorian - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, January 11, 2008

For the record, my capitalized friend, you only needed to move your left pinky 1/16th of an inch to turn off your caps lock and not look like a moron.

The reason that I was in collections with my Student Loan was due to their records not updating that the debt had been paid off. I stopped making payments (because there were none left to pay) and their records said otherwise. A few simple phone calls cleared it up.

Take a typing class and some Xanax and call us in the morning.

The Federal Trade Commission reports that for the 5th year in a row identity theft topped the list of consumer complaints. Identity theft accounted for over 37 percent of all complaints lodged in the FTC Consumer Sentinel database in 2005. That means that out of 686,683 fraud complaints in 2005, 255,565 were related to identity theft. It is estimated that almost 11 million people have been affected by this crime at this point.

ANOTHER OP THAT SAYS A COLLECTION AGENCY MADE UP AN ACCT OUT OF THIN AIR!UNBELIEVABLE! IT COULDNT BE ID THEFT, NO WAY! I LOVE THE WAY THESE GUYS COME UP WITH ALL THIS BS. WHEN I WAS IN COLLECTIONS, I COULD ALWAYS TELL A LEGIT CASE OF ID THEFT BY THE CONSUMERS 1ST REACTION TO BEING ADVISED OF THE DEBT. A TRUE VICTIM OF ID THEFT HAS A MILLION QUESTIONS ABOUT THE ACCT. THEY ARE IMMEDIATELY WORRIED ABOUT THEIR CREDIT & TRY TO FIND OUT HOW TO FIX THE SITUATION. A DEADBEAT ON THE OTHERHAND, REACTS JUST LIKE THIS GUY DID. TRYING TO GET THE AGENCY OFF HIS BACK. WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM A GUY DIDNT EVEN PAY FOR HIS EDUCATION WITHOUT A COLLECTION AGENCY CONTACTING HIM. AS SOMEONE WHO WORKED HIS WAY THROUGH COLLEGE, I HAVE A SPECIAL LOATH FOR GUYS LIKE THIS. SO, THE AGENCY OF COURSE IN COMES STEVE TO FAN THE FLAMES BECAUSE THATS WHAT STEVE DOES, HUH MR TRUCK DRIVER THATS ALWAYS ON THE INTERNET? The info on Alliance One.They are JUNK DEBT BUYERS !

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, January 10, 2008

This is a classic case of a third party debt collector abusing the public. They are junk debt buyers who really have no idea of whom the original debt belonged to. Now, everyone with the same or similar name is getting calls and collection letters. They are fishing!

Just send a CEASE COMMUNICATIONS letter to these crackheads. Send it by certified mail, return reciept requested. Be sure to put the certified# on the letter itself, and keep a copy for your records. This procedure is VERY important as it proves exactly WHAT you sent.

Do not sign the letter, just print. Otherwise, your signature will most likely end up on a contract that you have never even seen!

Now, when they violate your LEGAL request as per the provisions of the FDCPA, you sue them under that provision. Now, you can get paid by a bottomfeeder! It's easy money. [Notice for BillColl01: Not a SCAM].

February 25, 2003 EXTON, PA Alliance One announces the acquisition of Pacific Coast Collections Inc., (PCC) located in San Diego, California.

PCC had a terrible reputation for abuse of consumers; let's hope they clean up the dirty mess left by PCC.

What type of trouble has Jeff Gagney been in that has so many employees mad? Why are women being warned to avoid Jeff the Debt Collector? Is there something about him that we all should be aware of?

Why does this agency seem to be crumbling under it's own management?

Just how bad is the training in San Diego? Why does management allow so many violations of the FDCPA? Are collectors REALLY sent out to homes and businesses to effect collections? Just how desperate are Marlene and Michael Hale to hold onto power at Alliance One? Will they really go to any ends to effect collections?

If this sounds like a sick soap opera than you need to stay far away from Alliance One and it's cast of cast off's. This is a sinking ship with rats all over the place. Everyone needs to sat far away from them, least they be caught up in the stink of this organization.

Color Alliance One as Alliance GONE by using the cease-comm letter on them. Stay away, far away so the smell of this garbage pile does not get on you.

This gives you a good idea of the lowlife you are dealing with at Alliance One.

Alliance One

You do realize that Alliance One is trying to collect a debt-and when you claim your the persons spouse, in states that allow it, you are verifying who you are-if you are identifying yourself as someone else thats not their fault. If you're the person in debt- when you do sign a contract (which maybe you should read the fine print) you would see that your are agreeing to pay the balance in full upon non payment of 6 months or more, I don't understand why it's such a shock to some people. Alliance One helped me get rid of all my debt and offered me settlements. Whats wrong with paying less than you legally signed off to pay? Nadda thing.

Understandably, you are annoyed by collection calls. However, you should want to know if a debt has been fraudulently put in your wife's name. AllianceOne isn't a ficticious company with ficticious accounts. If they're calling you can bet that there is a real debt attached to you wife's name & SSN. If she ignores it will most likely tarnish her credit until it is dealt with.

Once you say you are her husband, you have ID'd yourself. Collectors can talk to you about the account then. If someone lied about being the husband, it would be on them, not the agency.

The best way to deal with this is to talk to the agency, confirm SSN, and pay it if it is a legit debt (maybe your wife had a credit card you didn't know about) or go through the process of filing a police report and working with the collection agency and credit card company to put this as a fruad account. Any other action is just a waste of time. They will, and have to right to, continue collection efforts until the balance is resolved (either paid or proved as fraud). Cooperation is the key.

Good luck!
