I was conficted of a DWI nine years ago. Went to treatment, fufilled everything the court ask me todo. For five years I was required to paid 75.00 a month for probation cost to the office in Federal Way, WA. This was a must do so that I would not go to jail. I paid this for five years, and was given the ok by the court to get my licence back after my 1,700.00 fines where paid. They told me Alliance One had my account. Alliance One said I owed them over 3,000.00 part of that was my court cost, the rest was interest and some small bills they had bought from another company and mixed them in with the court costs. I asked them if I could just pay the ticket, and get my licence back, they said "no" I had to pay all of what they had on their books, then they would tell the court I had paid, and I would be free to get my license back.

The last time I spoke with Alliance One was about three years ago. I had decided to never bother getting my license back if it was going to cost me that much money. Now I would like to try to get this taken care of. My fear is that " Alliance One" will take my money, and then come up with some other bill from some place and keep me hostage. I have read some of the complaints on this blog, and people who have never been held hostage to a credit company do not understand that they can do what they wanna do. Bills should fall off, IE medical bills and such after 3 years. One they do not live up to that, and if they do, after 3 years they sell it to another company. I realize this practice of giving fines to out side business helps the courts, and that is fine, but there should be some restrictions about adding other bills to a court fine.

I wonder if the court system is aware that they are adding on other debts?

Do you have a contact at the DMV or somewhere in the court system that ordered the original debt to be paid and collected through Alliance One?  Contact that person and ask if the system allows Alliance One to tack on other unrelated debt to the authorized court debt.  I certainly understand interest, but unrelated debt doesn't seem right at all. One of the issues you will have to address is letting this sit for the last 3 years.

Try fiing a complaint with the CFPB. I don't know if that is the right place to file your complaint, but they may know where you can go and what you can do if it isn't the right place.
