These people are very unprofessional! I received a call from one of their sorry agents, Chris, who at first seemed like someone I would not have a problem with. He started out by asking me if we can set up a payment plan again and I said yes. He asked me for an amount and I said, to be honest, $20. Boy did that set him off!
He then started telling me that $20 would not cover my interest and that in the time that they had my account (+/-6 months) I have only paid off $200 in interest. He asked if I could go back to paying the $100+ I started out paying and I said no. He then asked if I could go back and pay the $50 I was paying the last 3 months and again, I told him no. His voice started getting loud and rude, causing me to begin to get frustrated and I also became loud and rude. When he finally let me get a word in, I again told him I can arrange payments for 3 months at $20 a month. All seemed well. I gave him my bank routing number and account number. Wrong thing to do!
As soon as I gave him that he told me he was going to set me up for $20 for 3 months and then $100 for another 3 months! I told him no, I am not authorizing you to take anything out of my account. He started being rude again and saying unnecessary things. I advised him that I am not REFUSING to pay this debt that I am willing to make payments and he was not accepting that I can afford. He then started saying it's not his fault I can't keep up with my debt and I need to do something about it. I asked for his manager...no help that was! A jerk by the name of Brian got on the phone and started asking me questions. I told him that I am not refusing to pay my debt but that I needed to make arrangements that would still allow me to survive daily. He then started saying unneccessary things (I THINK THIS WOULD BE CALLED HARASSMENT!) and caused me to get upset. I started TRYING to explain my situation and he told me that he wasn't going to have a "pity party" for me and that people like me need to see someone...and then he told me to see a PSYCHIATRIST! Seeing he wasn't getting anywhere with me, he then hung up the phone on me.
This organization is AWFUL. I am sending them a Cease Communication Letter and will work with Capital One directly to repay my debt.

Why not just mail in your payment

If you just mail in your payment of 20 a month or whatever you want, allianceone will hang onto your account anyways so it won't progress any further. Then that way you don't have to give them your account information. The address is 1160 centre pointe drive, mendota heights, mn

Collectors have no "rights"

Debt Collectors have no "rights" to anything.
The debtor has ALL of the "rights" under the law.
I know these cold hard facts really irritate most bottomfeeders.
#7 UPDATE Employee
You have rights as well as the collectors do.

As an employee of Alliance One, I must assure you that AllianceOne is not in the business of abusing debtors. Having said that, you must understand that there is two sides to each story; there is your story and the story of the collector.
If what you have stated is accurate and truthful, you have been a victim of harassment. Having said that, you should be advised that AllianceOne is one of the most reputable collection agencies in the world and they are extremely cautious of their procedures. They constantly monitor their calls, record conversations, etc.
You have rights as well as the agencies do too. If this ever happens, you should demand to speak to a manager; you have that right.
One thing you should keep in mind is that collection agencies are always willing to help you with your debts. I can assure you that you that a collection agency has the ability to save you plenty of money.
Regards,
"HappyCollector"

Lets be realistic

Lets be realistic. Making a $20 payment on an account that is still accrueing interst IS NOT going to help you. Plus $20 for 3months and $100 after that is not that bad. Your account IS already in collection. I mean come on.

Capital One WILL actually sue for a small debt..

Maritza,
You never have to deal with any third perty collector. Always send the CEASE COMMUNICATIONS letter ASAP.
Dont even talk to Capital One. Just send checks to the normal payment address with your account# on the check.
This will keep you from getting sued. And, as soon as they cash one, they accepted your terms. If they refuse one, your defense is that they refused your payment.
Either way you win!
