Robert Bromley at Allied Interstate collection agency called my work looking for me about my father's student loans, not mine. I am not a co-signer to his loans.

My dad is almost 70 and is a retired public school teacher and this year his teacher pension was basically wiped out and his fixed income is really tight. He has student loans and the government worked out a payment plan by garnishing a portion of his social security.

I was getting a lot of missed calls from 1-800-367-1822 (which I now know is Allied Interstate), but they never left a voice message. I tried periodically to call back and was put on a wait message with no information of who I was waiting for. When I did finally get a person she just said hello how can I help you. I asked who the number is from because I keep getting calls from it. She asked for my name before telling me, I wouldn't and the conversation ended at that.

A couple of days ago my boss called me at home informing me that a Robert Bromley called there for me. Robert Bromley gave him my father's case number and wanted me to call him at 1-800-367-1822 and told my boss I would know what it was all about. I did not know what it was about, but I did recognize the number, so called and Robert Bromley said he is collecting on my father's loan for Allied Interstate. I was very upset that this person is calling my work, giving others my father's case number, and calling my cell. I gave him my father's contact number. He then basically wanted me to contact my father for him and threatened to garnish his social security. I informed him that this was not something I am a direct party to and to not call my work about this. Robert Bromley replied "what are you going to do about it and hung up.

Today, two days later, Allied Interstate called my cell twice. I called them again to request no more phone calls to me about this and the lady that answers saying only "hello how can I help you" wanted to just connect me to Robert Bromley. Robert Bromley again wanted me to contact my father for him.

Since my father already has an arrangement that is taking money out of his social I asked for the contact information of the actual agency that hired Allied Interstate so that I could let my dad know in order for him to verify this is a legitimate collection by Allied Interstate. Robert Bromley said I was now wasting his time. He then said that the phone calls will continue to me and hung up.

I left a message for Anythony Rathlen Allied Interstate collection manager Robert Bromley supposed boss, requesting no more calls to me about this. On two different days I have asked to speak to a person in charge attempting to put an end to this in a simple manner and to avoid filing a formal complaint, but no manager was available to talk to me.

I believe that Robert Bromley Allied Interstate collections could possibly be in violation of some aspects of FDCPA by Robert Bromley freely giving my father's case number to a person that is not a party to his collection - such as my boss (my work that he called is not affiliated in any manner to the public school system my father worked for, the lenders, etc, and has zero connections to my father). By trying to call me at my work and on my cell wanting me to tell my dad to call him, and by his threats to me personally that the phone calls will continue. I am now in the process of filing complaints with the BBB, Attorney General Office, and FTC and writing a letter of cease communication. Any advice on any further actions I should begin exploring and how to go out them by anyone reading this that knows about these things your advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you

I had similar experience with Robert Bromley!

You are definitely right in that Robert Bromley is in violation of the FDCPA.  He was harassing me regarding my own student loans (i was in the process of consolidating) back in December '08.  I did some research on the FDCPA and noted the many violations he was committing.  I also kept a phone log of all the phone calls I received as well as my employer.  I only spoke directly with Robert Bromley twice.  I told him specifically not to call me at work, and he continued to do so.  I filed a lawsuit and won my case in February of this year.  I would advise finding a lawyer who specializes in this area.  My lawyer only represents cases in Illinois and Indiana, but he could find you someone in your city.  His name is Larry P. Smith, and the number is 888-822-1777.  He sues them on a regular basis!  I won some money, although i didn't care about that as long as this a*****e quit calling me!  Robert Bromley should not be discussing your father's debts with ANYONE including you, it is illegal to give out someone's debt information to anyone other than the person in debt! if your father is already in garnishment, then the proper paperwork needs to be sent to the collection agency.  As much as they violate the FDCPA, Allied Interstate is legitimately hired by the U.S. dept of education to collect on student loans.  But, you can SUE THEM!  Please give Larry Smith a call and he can direct you to an attorney in your area.  Good luck!
