several people called on different occassions regarding my husband and I oweing $123 regarding an AT&T past due bill, yet the phone bill has never been in his name, and our main phone which they called us on has never been with AT&T ever. They wanted his social security number for verification which we refused...and when we did they said they could not release any information, but they would keep trying to collect from us so we should just give them the information...we threatened back and said you keep calling us and we'll keep calling you...she eventually hung up.

Here is how to deal with Allied International

I had the same issue with them regarding a Verizon phone #.  What happens is the phone companies re-use phone #'s and don't remove the old phone # from the account when they farm it out to collections which is why the NEW phone # owner gets collections calls for the old phone # owner.   Couple of things you can do to make these calls stop both short term and permanently.

1.  Send an email return receipt to Allied at help@allied-interstate.com make sure the email says the following:

Attn: Allied International.

The AT&T  phone # __________ (your phone #)  which I have only had for ________time, apparently previously belonged to another person who owes money to AT&T.   I am not that person.  I  do not know them, nor do I owe this debt. I have spoken to AT&T and asked them to remove my phone # from the previous account # under the previous owner.

This is formal notice to Allied Interstate that the debtor you are seeking is NOT at _________ (your

phone #). Please do not call this # again in attempt to collect this debt since it is the WRONG #.

This serves as formal notice that you have been told you have the wrong #.   Any future calls to this # regarding this debt will  be considered a violation of the FDCPA and will result in the potential filing of a lawsuit against your company.

2.   Call AT&T - ask for a supervisor.  Explain what is going on.  Tell them they MUST remove your AT&T phone # from the account of the former owner.  They should be able to find this other account by looking it up via the phone #.   If they do not do this, then when they farm the account out again to a collections agency the calls wills start up again.  You'll need to do this to stop the calls permanently.

Under the provisions of the FDCPA you have the legal right to tell any third party debt collector to CEASE COMMUNICATIONS with you.

All it takes is one letter sent by certified mail, return reciept requested. Put the certified# on the letter itself, and keep a copy for your records. This is very important.

Now, when they violate your legal request, you sue them as provided for under the same law.
