I experienced the mistreatment from both BARTON & ALLIED Securty after the merger. The company does not have a problem with a Account/Site Manager (Jeff F.) using the racial slure "SPADE" and allowing officers to tell racial jokes. The same A/M gave me a false promotion, gave me NON-FMLA forms for a Medical leave.

For reporting the events to H.R. and the D.M. I was transferred and told there would be an investigation (June 2004). It took 9 months (FEB. 2005) to start the investigation, that was full of lies and denials. I could not receive Equal-Pay and a $00.25 raise has been withheld for over a year. I resigned in May 2005 via a CONSTRUCTIVE DISCHARGE. This is just a broad scope of what happened. I now see that the actions seem to be corporate standard. They may not help, but report mistreatment to the E.E.O.C. anyway.

However...............

AUTHOR: Linda - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, September 29, 2006

Well!! after reading all these comments, the comments I was going to use had already been said, all these above comments are absolutely the kind of thing I have seen and experianced in my eleven years of service, I'm glad to be able to know that I'm not imagining this, I have not worked for ALLIED BURTON but I have worked for some major private security firms namely xxx in the south east, xxx (now xxx) an xxxx in West Virginia, I am now working for xxxx in Tucson.

The first point we all need to keep in mind is that the security officers is just an ordinary citizen with a badge, it is an ground floor position like fast food workers, janitors, and maids, they all have had similar problems in their contractual stance, the most common area that comes under attack in these fields is of a moral nature and especially S/O. They are expected to be morally outstanding, however most let the corperate office dictate how that act, and that of course is why there is so much uncaring officers working in the field, most of the time it is a very boring job, and young people can't tolorate that kind of pressure and stay out of trouble, older ones, 50+ do so much better and are excepted more readilly by the clientile, decriminating or not, it's a fact, not to say that they are exempt from misbehaving as well.

Clientile can do well by starting with around the clock security until their threat level is reduced,(about three months) then replace business hours shift with their own man or woman, next, they can farther improve the quality of their service to move the graveyard shift personnel to the evening, having two guards there, why? because evening 4pm - 12 midnight is the most important crime active time to cover, guards must be right on their toes at all times during that shift. while all clients should by all means secure their properties with camaras and alarm systems, these electronic devices is more then adaquate to secure the property midnight to the time when the day guard comes on, having a night guard on duty is the biggiest time and money waster there is, because he will be asleep anyway, and nothing is going to happen.

NO SECURITY GUARD SHOULD EVER WORK AFTER MIDNIGHT WHAT SO EVER. Finally all allegations of any personnels conduct should be thoroughly investigated, I have been lied about and fired based on those lies and it is very demeaning, because of the worthlessness that offices place on officers. EEOC and other agencies look at the worth of the recipient, such as their educational background and if he is a veteran influences their decision do take action. I was told that because there is know relationship between client and the contract employee, no action can be taken, if there is a complaint against the client or client employee.
All of the above comment are accurate and should be taking seriously.

DO NOT WORK FOR ALLIED BARTON! PERIOD!

AUTHOR: Helene - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, September 28, 2006

My solution is simple. Do NOT work for Allied-Barton!

I was a fool and worked for them for two years total at two locations.

You know what they say: "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on ME!"

I thought things would have gotten better since they could NOT have gotten much worse at the former place where I worked BUT I was WRONG!
Like a McDonald burger, the quality, or lack thereof, seems to be a standardized from Allied location to Allied location --wherever they are, where ever the place. And it seems they have this consistency from state to state as well. EVERYTHING IS THE SAME!

A janitor job would pay more (assuming you could get hired with all of the competition that we are getting these days from undocumented workers!) AND I think you would get more respect!

When the managers apparently have the company's TACIT permission to loot employees AND CLIENTS and stuff their pockets with these questionable dollars,it makes for an EMPLOYEE HELL!

DID I FORGET TO SAY THAT MOST PRIVATE SECURITY COMPANIES GIVE FORMER EMPLOYEES REFERENCES FROM HELL? JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN AND THEY THINK IT IS FUN?

Allied Barton has the reputation locally-- wherever they are -- of being one of the VERY WORST about treating their people like scum and when their "security persons" have had enough --even though they were never late and never missed a day of work --- ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE FEMALE and/or a MINORITY PERSON (G*d forbid that you would be BOTH because you won't last there at all for sure!) THEY WILL GIVE YOU A JOB REFERENCE THAT MAKES YOU SEEM LIKE YOU WERE A HEROIN ADDICT,RAN A WORLDWIDE STOLEN PROPERTY FENCING RING AND HURT CHILDREN! THEY WILL GIVE YOU A JOB REFERENCE FROM HELL!

I KNOW ABOUT THIS PERSONALLY!
ALLIED SECURITY IN AUSTIN,TEXAS DID IT TO ME!
But who has enough money to FIGHT them?

I wish I could join the class action suit against Allied Barton that the person in Missouri in this article has apparently filed.
EEOC in San Antonio, Texas took my complain, ackowledged that we did have a"serious problem" and then did NOTHING at all about it.

I remember reading that an entire section of a certain security company that featured a patrol service (You vetranos know who I am writing about!) apparently went out of business in Tennessee or one of those states because of outrageous wage discrepancies, etc. and all of these things that private security contractors are known to do best but for every one that gets busted--- about 100 more take their places and they are sometimes MUCH WORSE than the old company!

DO NOT WORK FOR A PRIVATE SECURITY SERVICES CONTRACTOR. PERIOD.

IF YOU WANT YOUR BUSINESS PROTECTED:

DO NOT USE ANY PRIVATE SECURITY SERVICES CONTRACTOR. YOU WILL GET RIPPED OFF BY SOME SLICK SALESPERSON WHO WILL PROMISE YOU EVERYTHING!

But because there appears to be a finite labor pool of persons who do security work, you will probably being assigned the same guy from the old security company whose work you DID NOT LIKE, the SAME guy you cancelled the contract because of substandard performance!

IF YOU WANT GOOD SECURITY WHO CARES ABOUT YOUR COMPANY--USE YOUR OWN PEOPLE!

IF YOU ARE AN EMPLOYER, DO NOT BELIEVE ANY JOB REFERENCE YOU ARE GIVEN FROM A PRIVATE SECURITY SERVICE CONTRACTOR like Allied Barton or Securitas or the Wackenhut Corporation or any other "security company" or "security guard service."

There is such a HUGE turnover of employees that record-keeping is NOT accurate and nobody gives a d**n whether or not the employee files are even updated and they LOVE to give BAD references on people they dont' even know. Besides, you will NOT get a good reference from them because you will NOT be speaking to someone who ACTUALLY KNEW or EVEN REMEMBERED the employee in question because anybody who did will be LONG GONE!

Anyone reading this, PLEASE get the word out about the biggest RIP OFF industry in America today and that is the PRIVATE SECURITY SERVICE CONTRACTING industry !

WE NEED FEDERAL CONTROL!
NOW!

Before / After - Moving On -

AUTHOR: Phil - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 10, 2006

In response to the comment dated 04-08-2006. From your comment you are probably not a MINORITY or FEMALE, so you do not experience discrimination (sometimes daily) based solely on your RACE or SEX! True, most companies only worry about their -BOTTOM LINE-, but when some employees advance over others that are equally or more deserving, then theres a problem. Some employers anticipate employees quiting and moving on, and are not being held liable for their MISTREATMENT/DISCRIMINATION. Employees need to report and file complaints, so employers think twice about their actions (especially we they break the law). Some companies advertise Equal Employment Opportunities, but their actions show otherwise. So eveyone use your CONSTITUTIONAL right under TITLE VII of the CIVIL RIGHTS ACT of 1964, win or lose the workforce just might improve.

TIME TO MOVE ON.

AUTHOR: Anonymous - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, April 08, 2006

After reading the above comment involving the supervisor at the company mentioned. I wish to offer this:

First off: They are hinting to you that it is time for you to move on. I do not know how long specifcally you've been with this company, but you need to consider a change and quickly before the next level is taken. Threats and other methods are VERY COMMON in contract security. The management (NOT ALL..there are still some good ones out there)is usually incompetant to the point of being laughed at openly by the clients they serve. Many are not even close to being junior supervisory, let alone management material and I'll bet that they aren't even licensed to be a manager. They would rather be surrounded by staff who are likewise and will not tolerate, at least for very long, anything different. If they make money for the corporate office (who cares little how this is done and what methods are used), this is completely acceptable to them. If a serious issue is filed, they will merely send out a corporate headhunter, can everyone in the office, and start all over again.

Second: Many security companies feel that if you are making above $8/hr, you are overpaid. The profits in the business have gone down significantly over the past few years. They would rather replace a "good" guard at $8.50/hr rate with two "warm bodies" at $7/hr with the same billing rate at the same site and pocket the difference. The clients they serve are fully aware of this and they get what they pay for, deservedly so.When they say they can replace you in a heartbeat, they are dead serious and it doesn't matter with what as long as it's cheap. If you go to a labor board and you win, they see this merely as the cost of doing business. You can COUNT on retailiation of some sort (even the physical type) if you do this. It is not worth it.

Third: Most supervisors (especially field or mobile supervisors) I have seen over the years are usually involved for trying to fix unfixable situations with no support from their superiors. In this regard, you are to take the heat for them while they go about the business of making the company money. Usually, you are "highly advised..." to use their own vehicles, computers, time off the clock, etc. to do work which often should have been done by someone at a higher level. You do this becuse it is felt you "need the job and can't do anything else..." Maybe you'll be reimbursed...but the reimbursement will not even be near enough to break even. This goes back to what I've previously written.

Finally: Contract security companies are nowhere close to being what they advertise. After reading through this site, I read the same kind of stories from different companies and people. In summation, I will remind everyone that the industry sells itself as something that it is not...after all, an unarmed security guard is not going to be playing hero (at least I hope not) if someone walks into their property with an AK-47 and starts shooting, but the guard will be taking the blame for not stopping the shooter. It is a low-end job and nothing more and you can bet that not only the companies themselves, as well as the clients who hire them, despite what they may say to the contrary, will fight to make sure that this system does not change.

In my building, we have a saying in regard to our security..."When we see her running out of the building like a bat out of ****, then it's time for us to all run out of the place right behind her!"

'Nuff said'

#5 UPDATE Employee

Allied Security

AUTHOR: M - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 15, 2006

My husband works for Allied Security in King Of Prussia, PA. The remarks of what takes place at this company in the first report are accurate. Although my husband is not attacked by managers for racial reasons, he is nonetheless attacked.

The manangers there are incompentant. They tell him on each shift that he is stupid and lazy and can be replaced. They harrass him every shift about where he is at every moment while his dispatcher is smoking and sleeping in the office.

Allied almost lost their Vanguard account. The Officers who patrol and are willing to do a good job are harrassed. Those who literally steal, cheat and sleep on the job are rewarded with promotions.

Two dispatchers that my husband liked working with who were African American, quit unexpectedly from their positions. But do not worry, the operations manager has a history of sleeping with the female Officers.

This is a company that needs to be monitored for their unethical behavior.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Discrimination is Standard Operating Procedure For This Company

AUTHOR: Helene - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 02, 2005

Congratulations! I was also victimized by these bigots who purport to be protecting clients propwerty and employees and who are SUPPOSED to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Allied should know better since they are based in King of Prussia, PA and there are very strong labor unions in the Northeast. Maybe that's why they feel they have to come elsewhere like to Texas and Missouri where workers apparently have NO rights at all and pull the kind of things they would NEVER,EVER get away with "up North."

ALL EMPLOYEES ARE ENTITLED TO RESPECT AND THAT INCLUDES NOT BEING CALLED RACIAL EPITHETS AND OFFENSIVE TERMS REFERRING TO THEIR RELIGION, RACE, ETHNICITY, DISABILITY, COLOR, GENDER, etc.

I am lobbying for FEDERAL CONTROL of private security contracting agencies --especially ones that license their employees to carry guns. I think the Feds MIGHT stop all of the paycheck cheating, lying, discrimination, setting certain employees up for failure because they are not training their employees, etc.

In my case, Allied LIED to me about the terms of the contract ( there was NO contract, we were just there on a month to month basis) and shorted me on my pay and refused to honor my religious holidays and created a hostile work environment and they did NOT have an AFFIRMATIVE ACTION manager there where you could report human rights violations, discrimination based on race, etc. This is in VIOLATION of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission rules --but NOTHING WAS DONE and, yes, they got away with MANY violations, especially of LABOR laws because there was no way that you, the underpaid, undervalued, abused employee, was going to have enough money to sue them...And I have to ask. Would it really be worth all the time and hassle to sue these cheap, pathetic excuses for human beings and the idiot corporation who hires such trash to represent them in Court? Over some two-bit "job" once held by retirees and retired military personnel who don't really need the money and medical benefits but are just working to have something to do?

It's not worth it to me. That is why I am trying to learn another profession so I can get the hell out and stay the hell out of this demeaning, discriminatory, dehumanizing, cheating cesspool industry that is SUPPOSED to be about protection.

Their clients are CHEATED! Their employees certainly are CHEATED!

And the only thing that gets protected is the BOTTOM LINE of the CORPORATION!

P.S. Our EEOC in San Antonio, TX just sends out notifications to corporations that a complaint has been filed against them. They just send in a corporate hitman who cleans house of all the hapless idiots in the office against which the complaint was filed, they hire more of the same kind of clueless, insensitive idiots and within a few months it is just MORE OF THE SAME and it happens again and again and again and again and again.....

NOTHING IS DONE.
Just count your blessings that you didn't waste 20 years of your life in the private security contracting trade as a guard and when you should have had a retirement check coming, you aren't broke and living in a car and have to use a public computer.
