Allied has never acted in good faith to settle our moving damage claim. Our household goods were delivered on August 30, 2002. We have been trying since October 13th to get Allied to settle our claim for the extensive amount of damage done to our furniture and to two Ducati motorcycles.

They have made multiple false promises. They deliberately delay returning e-mails, phone calls or snail mail for unreasonable periods of time.

Our moving claim totaled $27,819.79. Damage to both motorcycles, included in that amount, totaled $8272.13.
We took both damaged Ducati motorcycles to a Ducati dealer on September 13th for an estimate to repair the damage, and later an appraiser sent out by Allied on December 13th came within $200.00 of the amount claimed.

In an effort to avoid settling the claim Allied sent another appraiser, this time with only pictures, back to the Ducati dealer and got another estimate for the repairs totaling $3000.00 less than had originally been estimated. The problem was the repairs to the fiberglass, that included repair, paint and decals were left off of the estimate.

We contacted the dealer, and they stated that the appraiser never indicated that there was a repair order already in their system and that in fact, those repairs had been left off. I could go on but needless to say, the tactics this mover is using to try to avoid paying for the damage that was done is unconscionable.
My furniture made out even worse. Allied sent an appraiser that spent 5 hours in my home assessing the damage.

In addition to my furniture being cracked, dented, torqued, scratched, and gouged with chunks of wood sticking out, some of the joints are now so loose that the furniture can easily be wiggled from side to side.
The continued stress that Allied claims personnel has chosen to inflict only makes the whole unfortunate situation worse.

We have spent an enormous amount of time and effort trying to get Allied to accept responsibility for so much damage and settle our claim in a fair and just manner. Allied has chosen to act unethically and unprofessionally.

Motorcyclist Beware!! Allied also advertises in the American Motorcyclist Magazine. The ad states ...'We Move Motorcycles'. Use Allied at your own risk.

It's not the company that counts, it's the driver

AUTHOR: Lmg - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 27, 2009

You can hire the best moving company there is but it all comes down to the driver. If your driver is inexperienced, uncaring or inept it doesn't matter if the company has a great reputation or not. Not that it is a guarantee but always ask for a Master Mover if possible. These guys have to keep their claims low to stay in the program. Hopefully you will get one who really cares about their customer and most of them do. Sorry that you got one of the bad apples.

Wrong Again Blake

AUTHOR: Jim - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, September 08, 2008

I've never worked for Allied - ever. The fact you had a bad move does not make Allied a disreputable moving company - that's the bottom line. If you REALLY want to see disreputable movers, they're all over this website; I absolutely assure you if you had handed your belongings to any of them, your furniture would be kindling and you'd be out $30,000 for the move. Since none of them sell full-replacement valuation, the most you'd collect from them is $0.60 per pound, and you'd never be able to sue them in court because of Carmack. Is Allied a perfect mover? No, but then none of them are. The fact you had a bad move is a serious shame, but it doesn't make Allied disreputable simply because you had a bad move - just as it wouldn't make United, Mayflower, North American, Atlas, Graebel, National, and the other big-name movers in the country disreputable because they occasionally have bad moves.

Blake, you need to dial it back because Carmack is that serious, and if your consumer attorney isn't fazed by it, then your attorney will be in for a surprise quite soon. Your best bet is to have the claim reopened and then have Allied defend the claim denial. I suspect you'd win that hands down if the judge decides the arbitration process was faulty, but again Carmack will limit recovery to the undepreciated value of the property damaged or destroyed.

Allied - The UNreputable Movers!

AUTHOR: Blake - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, August 28, 2008

Jim - the way you continue to call Allied a "reputable company" is not lost on me - obviously you are in some way connected to them.

My attorney is VERY WELL informed and as Allied will soon find out, the Carmack Amendment does NOT apply to my move as Allied has a problem with their paperwork.

The Carmack Amendment does not benefit anyone but the moving companies. To try to say otherwise is a complete fabrication.

The wheels of justice turn slowly. Not only will I win my case but I will be awarded punitive damages and attorney's fees. For you to make a blanket statement about my case and the way it will be adjudicated shows how uninformed you are. This is the wrong forum for you to sing the praises of Allied or any moving company.

Once my case wraps up I am writing a website detailing this journey. It will include the hundreds of pictures of the damages to my furniture and home. I also have tape recorded conversations with various Allied employees that will be included on the website.

I am a consumer advocate. It is my passion. I have written many websites to find victims of various rip off companies. I have caused 2 businesses to be investigated by the Attorney General and shut down. I have caused another company to be investigated by the AG and a class action lawsuit to be filed against them.

Anyone that has been screwed by Allied during an out of state move, please file a complaint with the U.S. Department of transportation. If it was an intrastate move file a complaint with the Department of Transportation in your state. The only way to cause change in the moving industry, which is so desperately needed, is to cause new legislation. Start writing those letters.

Unfortunately - Allied Will Probably Win the Case

AUTHOR: Jim - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 26, 2008

Carmack prevents the public at large from collecting amounts in excess of the valuation amount contained in the contract, even if you could somehow prove the negligence was intentional. Carmack doesn't simply protect reputable movers like Allied and their competition, but it also protects scam movers who have this nasty habit of turning furniture to firewood on many of their moves. I am conerned your lawyer didn't know this going in because there are so many case precedents on the matter, that settling with the mover often nets you more than what the courts would award you - and then the legal fees kick in..... It would also prevent the OP from collecting on the repair of the Ducati motorcycles.

I should also note that valuation and insurance are not the same and valuation may not and will not make you whole in such a situation. Moving companies do NOT sell insurance for a move and your homeowners policy would not cover you unless there is catastrophic damage, and even then it may not cover items.

Best of luck to you......

Allied The Movers NOT to Choose!

AUTHOR: Blake - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 26, 2008

I also used Allied Movers. I purchased $125,000.00 of coverage from them for my move at my cost of $767.00. Allied charged me over $17,000.00 for my move. They lost and damaged my furniture. They did a lot of damage to the walls moving my things into my brand new home. There is over $100,000.00 damage. They broke my ceiling fan. I could go on and on.

Allied sent a furniture repair company to my home who took over 100 photographs. The furniture company said that this is the worst damage to furniture that they have seen in their 30 plus years in the business. Their report caused the Allied adjustor to say to me that they are "up in jambles because their is so much damage." Whatever that means?

This was an out of state move. That fact did not put this move into the hands of Allied headquarters. This being an out of state move did not make it better for us to get the matter resolved.

Not only has Allied NOT paid, we had to sue them. Suing them still did NOT make them pay for the loss and damages that their negligence caused (and I do have emails of apology from Allied for how badly this move went). Instead of Allied paying for their negligence and the damage they caused to our belongings they hired local counsel and are in the process of trying to get my complaint dismissed under the Carmack Amendment. This amendment helps moving companies screw the people that they have damaged.

Do not use Allied. I don't care what state you are in, they are the same crooked rip-off company in every state that they are doing business in.

other actions to take

AUTHOR: Jack - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 24, 2003

Have you tried their toll free customer service number? If you moved from one state to another corporate headquarters is the ultimate authority pertaining to your move. Allied Van Lines has a great customer service record and monitors that service through post move surveys conducted by the Gallup Poll organisation.

The toll free # is 800-470-2851 and you will need your 6 digit registration number when you call.

You should get an additional repair estimate for your furniture from a different service.

If you had replacement value coverage then there should not be any problem getting your posessions repaired or replaced. As far as the motorcycles being moved, my agency has the ad you refer to in your post. We ship hundreds of motorcycles per year through a different program than household goods moves and have less than a one half percent damage rate.

Should you need to call me personally for additonal advice on getting your claim resolved call me at the number on the motorcycle ad you referred to previously.

In addition the Allied Moving Systems is in no shape or form associated with Allied Van Lines. The hyperlink below this complaint infers such a connection, but there is none.
