On Dec 5th 2011 I cancelled my auto insurance policy with Allstate. I had received a notice via email letting me know that my policy was going to auto-renew on December 5th. The phone representative took my cancellation, confirmed it and told me that, since my policy was cancelled, the automatic payments would not be taken out of my account. On Dec 6th 2011, I Allstate took the money ($174.69) out of my account - even though the policy was cancelled! That same day I called Allstate again, this time to complain and retrieve my stolen money. I spoke with an Allstate manager (Helene) who told me that the representative who originally cancelled my policy was not able to stop the automatic withdraw and that he was wrong to tell me that Allstate would not be taking money out of my checking account. However, as I asked more questions about Allstate's policy and procedure, she began contradicting herself. For example, she claimed that EVERY notice/communication Allstate sent me told me that I had to provide 5 days notice to cancel. However, I produced Allstate's email (from December 2, 2011) and showed her that the most recent email (entitled Allstate Easy Pay Plan Payment Notice) did not contain any notice, nor did any of the Easy Pay Plan notices. When confronted with these facts, she immediately changed her position and apologized, claiming that the 5 day notice was located on some policy somewhere, but not every notice. After much arguing and a threat to file a police report of the theft from my account, she indicated that the refund had been approved and that it was going to be deposited the next day (December 7, 2011).  As of today, (December 14, 2011) Allstate still has refused to refund my money!!! Based on this experience, I will never use Allstate again and I will tell every person I can about their dishonest business practices. I have also filed a complaint with the California Department of Insurance and intend to continue posting complaints and to continue pursuing Allstate until they refund all of the money the stole plus additional compensation for having to resort to extraordinary efforts like this, to force them to return my money.

You were on the EZpay.
EZpay dedcuts money via ACH transactions.
ACH deductions are batched and sent to the respective banks 3-4 days before withdrawal date.
ALL COMPANIES, not just ALLSTATE will require you to provide notice of stop ACH atleast 5 days before the withdrawal date. What you are complaining about is impossible to do. Go ask your payroll direct deposit folks to switch bank accounts the day before your pay is deposited. Is it going to happen? NO.
ACH transactions need 3-4 days to be stopped or changed.
