This week I was visited by a young man who was selling magazines for a company called AM Press Associates aka Mags R Us. My fiance answered the door, and I heard someone talking to him so I approached to see what was going on.

He was selling magazines to supposedly help him with a contest for college which he would be attending in the fall. He was very convincing about everything he said, but again he was nervous, but I just felt like maybe he was young and was just like that. He was talking to my fiance who is from Cuba in Spanish and had some grandeous stories about some girl he knew from Cuba. He seemed nice enough! I am a nurse, and love to help people, so I figured I would buy one magazine subscription.

After handing him a check for 24.95, and him leaving my doorstep. I went back to cooking in the kitchen. My fiance said to me after closing the door "why did you do that?". I told him that I did it to get a magazine for our son, and because it was nice to help out someone in need. He said I was stupid and it was a scam, and I had just handed him our checking account and routing number.
I felt a bit of anxiety about this as a realized "DUH" that I didn't know this person at all! He could take my check and use the routing number and account number to steal money. I guess I am too trusting and nice at times.

I then got in my car and my husband got in his car and we went to find him. I called the police to help me because I didn't know if this guy would become violent or something else. I found him a block down from my house shooting off a different version of the lies he told us. The police showed up, and asked him for ID, and told him he needed a permit to sell things door to door. The police then called in his ID. I asked him for my check back, and he seemed so shocked that I would have done this. He stated to me that what he was doing wasn't a scam, and I was being ridiculous, I again asked for my check back and he gave it to me.

Long story short this guy was not from Gurnee, IL like he had told me, he was out of Ohio, and he had a warrant out for his arrest, and the cops took him away in handcuffs! That is the sweetest revenge for a scam I could've dreamed for! BEWARE TO THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE GOOD GUYS AND EXPECT OTHERS TO BE AS GOOD AS YOU ARE! I was lucky, hopefully he won't be able to do anything like this to anyone ever again!
