WARNING: SCAM DO NOT SUBSCRIBE OR TRY AMAZING DOGTREATS

December 15, 2004

Dear consumers and consumer advocacy groups:

I was a victim of a scam by Amazing Dog Treats http://amazingdogtreats.com/. They are one of those companies that has you sign up for a sample and you pay for the shipping and handling. However, you pay a lot more than that.

About six months ago I saw their advertisement on Care2.com. I decided to sign up for a sample. I put in my information to pay for the shipping. I received the dog treats a few weeks later. Then I read the agreement that stated that I had to cancel within 14 days or the dog treats would come each month and each month I would be billed $24.95.

I tried canceling for about a week via email and via their website. Their website was down all week and all the emails bounced back. Then I tried calling. I could not reach them for a few days but when I finally got a hold of them I cancelled. They gave me a cancellation number and I thought that would be the end.

For the next several months they continued to bill be and send me dog treats. I tried several attempts to email and call them again. I reached someone one time but they would not take my message.

I decided to take action. I called my bank and asked to put a stop to the dog treats. I filed a claim that was rejected due to the fact that I still had the boxes. So I sent back the boxes via USPS Confirmation. I informed the bank of the action but I was still receiving the treats. The response from the bank was that I needed an Authorization number from the company.

I tried calling the company during the business hours but they had a message stating they were closed. Then I tried just listening past the prompts and finally reached someone. They looked at my account and said I did cancel and that they would not give me an authorization number or a refund for the boxes I had returned. They would not give me any more information without me giving them the cancellation number.

I called them back later on that day and gave them the cancellation number. They looked at my account and said although their record show they are taking money from me and my records show they are taking money from me they will still not cancel it because they do not have formal proof that the money was being withdrawn from my account.

I am still battling this scam. Please do not get yourself into this situation. Please let others know.
