This company cares nothing about their reputation.  They've become an arrogant monopoly.  When I explained to the on-line chat representative from India that I am a cancer patient who depends upon bringing my Kindle to doctor's appointments and that my warranty expired only weeks ago, she was a stone wall.  When I chose to receive a phone call it was even worse Natalie G was her name.  I explained that I would share with other consumers and recommend to all that they purchase a Nook (too late to get all those community book stores back-so get a Nook).  I have to say, I once had an Apple router die three months after warranty expired and the customer service representative just handed me a new one in a box with a smile.  Again, their reputation is not important, and eventually they will die.  It will take time, but it will happen.  And think of how many Kindle books I have bought and would have continued buying which I will not buy now.  AND ABOVE ALL, I RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT INVEST IN AMAZON.  IT'S GOING NOWHERE GOOD.  YOU CAN ONLY DO WELL FOR SO LONG WHEN YOU CARE NOTHING ABOUT YOUR REPUTATION AS A BUSINESS.  THERE WILL ALWAYS BE COMPETITION BETTER AND SMARTER-AND KINDER AND NICER (INCLUDING TO CANCER PATIENTS) COMING UP TO REPLACE AMAZON.  BUY A NOOK-DON'T INVEST IN AMAZON.

I have a Kindle Fire and like it a lot and use it every day.  However, until technology gets a LOT more reliable than it is now, and until some format becomes a standard that everyone uses, I will not rely completely on EBooks of any sort.

None of these things happen to paper books, they don't break, they don't become obsolete, the batteries won't go dead, you can share them with anyone as many time as you like and, with care, they will last for decades or even centuries.

There is a place for both, at least at this point in the state of technology.

Kindle is just as good as Nook and so is their support.

Don't rely too much on Nook

Barnes and Noble is not the healthiest company around, and may well not be around in a few years, which would likely render surviving Nooks orphaned, abandoned, obsolete and useless.

Amazon is almost guaranteed to far outlast B&N as a going concern.

Investing heavily in a Nook over the Kindle would be a bad move in that case.

I bought a Nook.  If it breaks shortly after the warranty expires they offer a NEW E-reader at a discounted price

I read their warranty and could only find 1 case where it is covered after the 1 year warranty. That is they will continue to warranty the Nook for the remainder of the 1 year or 90 days after shipment of the replacement, which ever is longer.   It also stated it could be a new OR refurbished Nook.  So the longest it would be covered is 90 days after the 1 year and that is ONLY if it was replaced on the last day of the warranty.

But no where did I see in this warranty that they will offer you a NEW Nook at a discounted price after the warranty expires. 

So can you please tell us where you found this in writing, because I would really like to see what they consider "shortly after".

Also, perhaps you should search around for complaints about the quality of the Nook's.

NO PROBLEM WITH THE CONCEPT OF A WARRANTY BUT POOR QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE AND YOU LOSE MY BUSINESS AND WILL LOSE OTHER BUSINESS. I BOUGHT A NOOK BECAUSE THEIR WARRANTY IS MUCH MUCH BETTER.

I bought a Nook.  If it breaks shortly after the warranty expires they offer a NEW E-reader at a discounted price.  Amazon offers someone else's used e-reader that could be about to break at a discounted price TOO HIGH price.  So now I will be buying lots and lots of books for my Nook from Barnes and Noble, as I used to buy a lot of books for my Kindle from Amazon.  So Amazon lost my business and I predict that I am not unique at all.  Lots of others will choose other e-readers.  And I will certainly keep posting.  Other consumers will purchase MORE RELIABLE products.  And I will bring all my Internet business elsewhere.  As will others no doubt.  As I've said-I am NOT unique.  SO I SAY-DON'T INVEST IN AMAZON.

You would not be able to fulfill my contract anyways. Get a life! Don't worry about what I'm doing. But if you do go back to my website YOU might learn something!
These complete false alligation are ridiculous! And nothing ever leaves here with out a copy of the complete vet check , fecal checks also. with a copy of the receipt. Call my vet. better yet go to the website, look on the veterinarian care page and call them.

I Raise quality HEALTHY pets. Now, If you want to keep running your mouth, Just pick up the phone and call me. you just might learn something.

Amazon Kindle Crash Is Common

I found many many broken crashed Kindles reported on Amazon's own web-site.  Especially the Kindle Fire.  But what this reviewer wrote is also important for a consumer to consider before buying a Kindle (which could break the day after the warranty expires) and filling it up with books you pay for:

"You will never get a full refund if something goes wrong, and you will never get a new Kindle as a replacement if yours
doesn't work. It is easy to invest a lot of money in Kindle content and accessories, and I regret the purchases I made before I realized this generation of Kindle is seriously flawed"

Why in the world do so many people have a problem with the purpose and concept of a warranty?  It's ridiculous.

Incidentally, I have worked with Apple and they are the epitome of an arrogant monopoly.

Did you call the regular Amazon customer support or the dedicated Kindle support?  There is a huge difference between the two.  Kindle support is know for being amazingly helpful.  If didn't use the dedicated Kindle support yet, here is the contact info:

Amazon Kindle Don't buy it

It's NOT that I expect an electronic product to last forever.  Or that I expect that a company LEGALLY is required to replace a broken product after a one year warranty expires.  IT IS THAT WE AS CONSUMERS HAVE CHOICES, AND MOST OF US WILL NOT CHOOSE TO PURCHASE A KINDLE READER IF WE BELIEVE IT IS LIKELY TO CRASH TWO WEEKS AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES.  IT'S ABOUT EDUCATED CONSUMER CHOICES.  We will choose, given a choice, QUALITY AND DEPENDABILITY when spending our money.  And Amazon should think about that.

What has this got to do with anything, including Apple not wanting to kiss your butt.

What did you take to doctor's appointments BEFORE Kindle?
Are you unable to write things down, but able to use the  Kindle?

I don't see the Ripoff.
If you REALLY can't go to the doctor without it, perhaps you should buy a $25 pocket recorder instead...then when it breaks "a few weeks" out of warranty, you can come back on ROR and tell us how the mfr. refuses to work with you and you won't even be able to see your doctor anymore.
