I took my son and my brother to go see Identity Thief on a Monday evening when there is less people as I don't enjoy crowds. I was told at the ticket window that because my child is a year old I cannot bring him in with me to see a Rated R comedy after 6pm because they want it to be an adult experience and that my child would cause a disruption. I looked on the AMC website to find in writing this policy and could not find it anywhere in the code of conduct or policies. I called the theater and spoke with a manager about this supposed policy and told him that I didn't see this policy anywhere. It took him more than twenty minutes to look on the website to find this policy which turns out is only visible if you buy a ticket online on a seperate website! In my experience I find it more pleasant to watch a childs movie than an adult movie because there is always a disrespectful teenager or other adult who is more disruptive than my 1 year old who can't even talk and would have fallen asleep during the movie! This is absolutely unacceptable!

I applaud AMC

AUTHOR: coast - ()

"It is my right to take my child to a movie at any time I want to."

It is the manager's right to deny you access at any time.

Kudos to AMC for their excellent policy of accommodating the majority. You have provided good advertising for AMC.

You are a bad parent

AUTHOR: gimme-a-break - ()

Taking your baby to a rated R movie makes you a bad parent, and makes EVERYONE in the movies hate you.  Babies wake up and make noise and whine and whimper and distract people at the movies.  If you can't afford a babysitter - STAY HOME!

A Family Event?

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

Hey I have further news for you an R-Rated movie is NOT a "Family Event".

By the way..I don't know what theaters you go to, I can not recall the last time I had anyone talking on a Cell Phone..let alone even hearing a Cell Phone ring.  Perhaps their parents had the same parenting skills and attitude you have.

Yes children cry it happens and if my child becomes a disturbance I will gladly remove my child as should any responsible adult!
- A RESPONSIBLE Adult would not take their 1 Year old to an R-Rated movie.

I don't take my child to the movies on the weekend because there are too many people and its rediculous but it is my right to spend time with my child watching a movie like anybody else!
- This was so out there...and  just proves how my previous comments stand.  A movie is NOT a right. YOU are being very selfish and need to have a major adjustment of your "it's only about me" attitude.  A few good parenting classes would do you some good as well.

You are NOT spending time with your child.  You are watching a movie, and your kid is asleep according to you. If you really wanted to spend QUALITY time with your kid, go to a park, even walking around the mall, go home and watch a DVD that "gasp" he may actually find interesting.

You worry about costs..well parks and malls are free to walk around, and you could probably BUY the DVD for less than it cost you to go to the movie one time.

Hey Witch

AUTHOR: IamGood - ()

It is quite apparent you are stuck in your selfish world, but at least I can go to the AMC theater in the town where you live, and I can have peace in the knowledge that "YOU AND YOUR STINKY, CRANKY, CRYING LITTLE 1 YEAR OLD WONT BE THERE".

Thanks manager of the AMC Theatre. you have made going back to the movies enjoyable again.

Your arguments have been made moot, you stinky witch, you have been informed that you, and your baby are NOT WELCOME THERE Together.

If you wanna spend quality time with your child, put a blanket down on the floor, and lie down there with your child and play with him.

When did going to the movies stop being family events?

AUTHOR: KFrench12 - ()

First of you don't know anything about my child. Yes children cry it happens and if my child becomes a disturbance I will gladly remove my child as should any responsible adult! You think that I need to hire a babysitter? Why? I can't spend time with child watching a movie like anybody else? It shows me that I am not the one out of touch with reality and shows me that you obviously have no children of your own. Until you are a parent and have to sacrifice everything for your child you have no right to judge me. In todays economy it is hard enough to make ends meet. You work and work and work and have no time in life to spend with the ones you love. These are years that you can never get back! It is my right to take my child to a movie at any time I want to. Just like it is your right to have your own opinion! But thats exactly what it is an opinion! Ask any single parent struggling how hard it is to find a babysitter on a weekday and thats assuming that they want to spend time away from their child! Yet you are ok for people who pay for a ticket to disrupt others constantly? I have yet to see anything being done about those people talking on a cell phone, talking to others, or just being flat out disrepectful during a movie! So I don't think I am being unreasonable especially if its during a weekday when there are less people at the theater to disrupt! I don't take my child to the movies on the weekend because there are too many people and its rediculous but it is my right to spend time with my child watching a movie like anybody else! Since when did going to the movies stop being a family event and only acceptable for adults?

The only thing that is unacceptable

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

Is your selfish "all about me" attitude.

Leaving out anything about the parenting skills(or lack there of) it must take to think that it is even acceptable to take a young kid to an R Rated movie..regardless of age.  Instead just focusing on the "disturbance" issue.

When people go to an "R" Rated Movie, they don't expect to have babies in the movie.  How can you guarantee 100% that your son will fall asleep?  Then of course if he doesn't and starts to cry...with your apparent attitude of there are already other "disrespectful" people just how long would you let him cry thinking it was okay?  But even if YOUR's is a perfect kid, doesn't make a sound and no one would even know you had a baby.  What about the next kid who isn't?  They can't make exceptions so even your "perfect" kid is going to be lumped in with everyone else.

Here may be a shock for you..but you are now a parent.  You aren't going to get to do everything you did before you had him.  Especially for the next several years.   At least they are giving you an alternative, where if you want to go to an R Rated movie with a baby, you just have to do it before 6PM.

Oh and keep this in mind.  I am a parent of TWO kids and have absolutely no problem with this rule, in fact I am glad they have it.

You are Out Of Touch with Reality Woman.

AUTHOR: IamGood - ()

AMC realizes that 1 year old children cry, and cry , and cry, and cry, and cry, and cry, and cry (well I think you get the picture, but then again reviewing your post again, maybe you dont get the picture I am trying to paint here).

They do not want the people who attend these movies paying excessive ticket prices to gain admission to listen to your crying 1 year ond, when he decides to wake up.

but I have a perfect solution, that will allow you to avoid crowds, and see the movie too. HIRE A FRICKEN BABYSITTER.
