SEO Reputation Management at its best!

I called in Nov. 17 2005 to cancel my free subscription of AOL dial up cpnnection. My bank account still got charged on Dec. 15, 2005 for $24.00. I called in January 2006 to inquire about this charge but they told me the account was cancelled but they have no idea why I got charged. On January 15, 2006 I saw another charge for $ 24.00 on my bank account. I called them again and I was told that they have a record of me calling on November 17, 2005. According to them I called in for a price change, not cancellation. Since I do not have a cancellation number available, they can't locate my cancellation order. Therefore, my account was active for which I got charged for past two months. I had signed up for Verizon online as of November 18, 2005 then why would I call AOL for a price change. I doesn't make any sense. They screwed up with their system and I had to pay the price for that. AOL SUCKS

EDitor's Suggestions on how to get your money back!

Go to your bank within 60 days of the charge, or as soon as you know about the charge, don't delay, and tell them that there has been fraudulent activity within your account. Explain that you wish to file a dispute, and demand that they assist you in accordance with Federal Regulation E.

According to the majority of victims interviewed by Rip-off Report, those who immediately called their banks to dispute the charges did not get very far. Many victims got the following responses from their banks: we could not do anything for you or you waited too long; it hasbeenmore than 60 days.

If the bank is says that you have waited too long, explain to them how you called their 800 number as soon as the charges were found, and were told by the bank that nothing could be done. Remind the bank that they failed to assist youproperly at the 800 #, and instead, provided you with an inadequate explanation of your right to dispute. Tell the bank that it's their fault time has expired, and since they gave you the wrong info to begin with, they will just have to dealwith it,take the loss and reverse the charges.

Tell them the truth; this was unauthorized and your account was NOT to be charged! Keep emphasizing how you never authorized anything! Direct them to the hundreds of victims reports that were filed on Rip-off Report.com. And if you're at the bank, walk them over to their computer and make them go to this site! If you are on the phone with them, tell them you will wait while they access this site! Either way, be persistent!

Let them know nicely, that you were advised to Report them (the Bank) and this situation to the Banking Commission in your state. Since each state has a different name for the agency/controller over banks, find that name before you call or get to the bank so you can throw it in their face. The more knowledgeable you appear to be, the further you will get.

And just continue to demand the Federal Regulation E form! The bank CAN, MUST and WILL reverse the charge! But, you must be persistent; ask to speak to the supervisor or the area manager for all the branches in the state.

Let the bank personnel know you are meeting with the media later in the day, that you would much rather they do the right thing (as most other banks have) by looking at the complaints and immediately reversing the charge(s) to your account; no matter how long ago it was.Be sure to call the Media if necessary so you are telling the truth.

If you have to, be loud (but nice) in front of other customers.

called my credit card company and fought the charges

AUTHOR: Ben - (U.S.A.)

I recently had a similar problem with AOL. I called my credit card company and fought the charges. My credit card company reversed the charges and all interest and fees associated with it. I give an A+ to Capital One. This did not stop AOL. They then started to call and collect the fee in which I really did not owe. I then sent them a letter to them. According to the fair debt collection act, you can force them not to call. You simply have to write them a letter and state not to call you. You can do this even if you owe them money. If you do not owe the money also state in the letter. They are then allowed to only contact you one more time about the bill. I also contacted the BBB. Because I kept on, they finally did agree to not bill me for any of the charges that they should not have in the first place. Things to do that might help.

1. The best thing is get a Confirmation number of you canceling the day of your call to AOL. Do not get off the phone until you have a confirmation number. They should follow up with a letter in the mail that you cancel and you should have it within 14 days.

2. Contact your bank are credit card company in writing not to accept any more charges from AOL that they will be fraudulent. If you have charges already then tell them you wish to fight theses charges.

3. Contact the BBB that deals with AOL. The Better Business Bureau serving DULLES, VA is:

BBB of Metro Washington DC and Eastern Pennsylvania
WWW: http://www.dc.bbb.org
Email: info@mybbb.org
Phone: (202)393-8000
Fax: (202)393-1198
1411 K St., NW, 10th Floor
Washington, DC 20005 -3404

4. Have an attorney write are call the person. I belong to a great service that does it free. I only pay a small monthly service. This fee varies from state to state. I also sale it. The company website is www.prepaidlegal.com. By visiting the site, I get no money and that is just given to help people for future problems.

5. Be very persistent. Keep on until you get what you want and you fairly deserve. I once kept on until I got the phone number to the secretary of Albertson's President. I ask to speak to him and of course, he was busy, but by the end of the day, another district manager who was an a*s to me was being very nice and wanted to settle my problem with 150.00 in Albertson's groceries.

6. And finally word of mouth. Tell everyone how you were treated. Have them tell people and those people tell people.

In closing, be fair to the companies. You want them to be fair to you.
