The automatic red light fines come from an automated system that give less than three seconds for the yellow light. This means you have to slam on your brakes
and come to a screeching halt, risking being rear-ended, in order to avoid the red light, if you hit the intersection at a bad time. It is basically just a random time limit according to when you hit the intersection.
At 35 mph it takes 2.65 seconds to stop at a 15 feet per second deceleration, a hard stop. The measured time for a particular intersection was 2.5 second yellow light. If the yellow light were increased one second, it would give
a more reasonable time to stop. These automated red light systems are money making traps. I avoid East Cleveland whenever possible.
