American Camera and Camcorder Repair Service ( would like to have you believe that they are a Professional Camera Repair company. Well, I found out the hard way that this company is only out to cheat consumers out of their hard earned money while continuing to promise you that they can fix what they cannot. Their diagnostics for repairs are ungrounded and inaccurate and the contact you later wanted more money!!! The diagnostics on my camcorder originally indicated that it could be totally repaired and all memories saved for $259 dollars including parts and labor. WOW that is awesome I thought!!! After all, the memories of my new born son from the time of his birth to when he was 6 months old are on this camcorder.

In addition to that, the Canon HD HG-10 Camcorder originally cost me over $1,200 dollars!! So this is a fraction of the replacement cost and I don't lose any precious memories!!! So they would have liked me to believe

But let's start at the beginning my Camcorder got damaged and needed to be repaired to save the memories on it. So when I went to find a company to repair it, knowing the cost and time I would be without a camcorder when I should be filming my son (who had just turned 6 months) I needed a company that could not only repair it but that could get it back to our family fast! So after reviewing's website along with countless others I chose to allow American Camera and Camcorder Repair to fix my $1,200 Canon HD HG-10 Camcorder with all of my son's memories on it.

So before I determined to ship it off I decided to contact by sending them an email and to see how fast they replied. WOW was I surprised I received an email back the very next business day by whom I assume to be the owner or manager Gene Peranich. Gene informed me that he could repair 90% of all issues and it would be worth my time and effort to send it in to him and he would have one of his expert technicians run a diagnostic on it and get back to me within 3-5 days. Everything was looking good but being who I am I decided to call as well and make sure everything was legit. When I called, Gene answered right away but did not remember who I was or the issue with the camera because he is overwhelmed with repairs right now. That also made me feel at ease hey, everyone else is using them so so should I. And then the trouble begins

I shipped my Camcorder on Sept 16th to Arkansas for Gene to begin repairs and it arrived 2 days later at his shop on Sept 18th but no one was there to accept it. USPS tried again on Sept 19th again, no one there to accept it. Yes, this is when worry set in!!! I called again, and again Gene answered. No wonder he is overwhelmed there are no other technicians he is a 1 man rip-off shop!!! On this call Gene seemed completely out of it again not knowing who I was, what I was referring to, nor why he missed a delivery. In any case scenario he assured me he would contact USPS and get the camera the next day which turned out not to happen until Sept 23rd. That is right 5 DAYS AFTER they originally tried to delivery it meaning 1 week has already passed!

Well, well, well all seemed to be good now they had my camcorder and will said they would let me know within 3-5 days if it can be repaired and how much it will cost. Did that happen? OF COURSE NOT no more immediate contacts now that they have fooled me into trusting them with my camcorder! No more emails or phone calls from them unless I call or email several times!!! All the promises on their website are LIES!!!

So after they received the camcorder on Sept 23rd I did not hear back from Gene until Oct 1st and only after I emailed several time with no response and called to no avail!!! So, now the camcorder has been gone for 2 weeks for those of you counting at home and NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE!!! This time he tells me that he can indeed repair it and needs me to agree to the repairs so they can begin. I do so of course I needed this thing back pronto. He tells me I will have the camcorder back by the end of the next week.

AWESOME GENE!!! THANKS MAN!!! YOU ROCK!!! All is forgiven I just want my camcorder back because I am missing tons of family moments. But did I get it back the next week? NO!!! Did they contact me to notify me of any delays? NO!!! Did they return my emails or phone calls? NO!!! Did my wife tell me I was an idiot for trusting them? YES!!! Did she recommend that we just get our camcorder back and try someone else? YES!!! Did I listen. No.

D**n should have listened but I really thought all would be good. After all, Gene gave me his word and my word has always been good. However, this conman's word is not worth 1 red cent he will break it in a minute to ensure he makes a buck. Promise you everything provide you with nothing.

Weeks gone by now 3!!! I finally get a hold of this con-artist and he tells me a sad story about how he was out a week and he is the only one doing paperwork. Seriously??? That is your best excuse??? I don't need paper I didn't order letterhead I need my camcorder repaired not paperwork Where are your professional technicians??? I am missing valuable memories with my family!!! But whatever gene I will play your game of long delays and empty promises you are in control now just tell me this when will I get my camera?? Gene says, Next week at the latest sir. Fine get it done and get it to me!!! Your website says I should have had it back by now!!!

Weeks gone 4!!! I get a call on Oct 15th that is right 1 day shy of 4 weeks from when I shipped it. Gene says, Well, we can't fix it well we can but it is not going to be for $259 it is going to be $500 in parts and then we will have to add labor into that!!! WHAT??? Are you kidding me Gene??? You liar, cheater, and bait and switch con-artist!!! You seriously think I am going to rollover and fork out more than twice what you quoted me??? Just send me back my camcorder now!!

Gene says, Certainly sir, that will be $47.00 for our time and return shipping fee! What??? Are you kidding me? I just spent 4 weeks without my camcorder your site promises 3 weeks at tops for repairs and FREE SHIPPING right there on the homepage!! You are seriously going to charge me??? Yes, would you like it back or not? Fine Gene, you are in control you have my camcorder and I need it back. So send it back today and give me the tracking # so I know it is on its way.

So that is it. Now I have to report this conman to Discover Card for fraud on his website along with the Better Business Bureau and every website that allows me to post his fraudulent claims and dishonest service so I can warn others about his bait and switch tactics. By the time I get my camcorder back it will be 5 weeks plus. Memories that I can never watch with my grandchildren all so this company and this man can make $47 for not lifting a finger. Must be nice to be paid and not work but how do you live with yourself??

So in conclusion, I was totally duped into shipping and Gene Peranich my camcorder for repairs by the statements on their website (listed below) and learned the hard way that not only does Gene not know what he is doing but he also does not stand behind the promises made on his website, contact you once he has your camera or camcorder, nor possess the slightest hint of customer service skills. I warn all consumers from using such a dishonest, bait and switch company that doesn't stand behind there diagnostics, agreements, timelines, or promises! However, if you fill like donating some of your hard earned money to a company that doesn't offer the world any services I would recommend American Camera and Camcorder Repair. Promises!!!

This person sent us a camcorder in September of 2008 and told us it got wet.  Upon initial inspection, it appeared repairable and we estimated the repair at $259.00.  After one of our technicians completely disassembled the unit, it was found to have severe salt water damage.  Apparently it was dropped into the ocean.  The damage was much more extensive than originally thought.  We called him back with a revised estimate of at least $500.00 and he declined the repair and wanted it returned.  We did a complete reassembly and charged him the $35.00 diagnostic fee plus $12.00 shipping as stated on our 'repair policies' page of our website  He was upset to have to pay anything even though it's normal procedure as stated on the 'repair policies' page.

We repair thousands of cameras and camcorders regularly and at least 99% of our customers are satisfied and grateful for our service.  

I am willing to refund his $47.00 if he will cancel this ripoff report.
