Bought two American Express cards from Walmart (on our Walmart Credit Card) both valued at 25.00 plus an extra expense of almost $4.00 more just to buy them. We sent one to our grand child for Christmas and received a call in which we were informed that it would not work. We called American Express and they were not helpful at all. Informed us we would need the receipt from Walmart, which we had to drive 60 miles to get. The point being American Express did nothing to help us.
Today I tried to use the other American Express card and it did not work either-so now we have to go through all this again. The point being it is costing us more money (gas, phone calls and time) and knowing that we will not get any help from American Express. Walmart person also informed us that this is not the first time this has happened to them on the American Express prepaid cards. The receipt is proof that we paid for them and we feel that American Express should take care of this instead of us spending more money and time trying to resolve this problem.

My guess is that someone at Walmart didn't activate the cards. That's a Walmart issue, not American Express. However, it seems to me that someone wrote in to ROR recently with a similar problem. The issuing merchant was able to activate the card on the phone. Maybe someone from Amex can explain why they couldn't that?
