My husband traveled to Milan, Italy on business for his employer this past June. He stopped into a restaurant to have a desert one evening and brought something entirely different than he ordered, told them it wasn't what he ordered and was told they didn't have what he wanted. He drank the coffee they brought him and then handed the waiter his AMEX card.

The waiter brought him a bill in euros for the equivalent of around $500 US.He indicated that this was ridiculous, crossed out the amount and wrote in the equivalent of about $50, more than enough based on his other meals in the city. The waiter tore up, or appeared to tear up, the slip and walked off. Rocky left the equivalent of $50 on the table and got up to leave.

His path was blocked by two large men but he pushed past them and left. He assumed the issue was settled until we got a bill the next month for $4409! He has since talked to two different departments at AMEX.

They sent him a copy of the slip he supposedly signed with his signature forged on it.We received a letter from them today stating that we will have to discuss this with the merchant directly and AMEX will not intervene! They have now charged us with $4409! So, be aware, you cannot safely use and American Express card anywhere. They will NOT stand by their customers and you open yourself up to incredible liabilty when you use their card. Leave home without it? The only safe thing to do!

AUTHOR: Globetrekker - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 17, 2008

I have learned my lesson about American Express after theft of $10,000 in
Travelers Cheques and the hard work I had to do to get them back..Read my report on this site under Amex Travelers Cheques..DO LEAVE HOME WITHOUT THE AMEX TRAVELERS CHEQUES and CHARGE/CREDIT CARDS!
I have searched the internet sites such as:
www.consumeraffairs.com
www.complaint.com
www.complaintboard.com
www.amexsux.com
You can also file a valid consumer complaint at:
www.ftc.com

and I have learned enough about this company to stay away from using its
products and services

American Express Company Aids and abets credit card fraud

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 18, 2008

I am a member of the NRCC and an honorary chairman.
http://systms.net/images/National%20LeaderShipAward2006.pdf

I consulted for IBM traveling aboard in this role. I was given a IBM
Corporate AMEX which I used to travel for IBM. When, I was injured in
Italy and came home IBM forced me to travel to the Ameriprise / AMEX Day
700 project.

I then received my first AMEX statement, and submitted the expenses. IBM
refused to pay for a majority of expenses and had me pay over $956.00
out of pocket expenses for the project in Italy and the Day 700 project.

I left IBM and went direct to other client. I submitted the remaining expenses in 2006 to IBM who never paid AMEX for $5,600.00 dollars in expenses incurred at AMEX.

Warning to all people out there. AMEX does not have a Corporate Card at all. It is a personal credit card secured against your personal credit. I found out from AMEX that I am now liable for this card, not IBM. Myself and thousands of others were forced to take this card is like being held at virtual gun point via Amex. America / Government needs to step in and end this. People's lives are being destroyed by Corporate America.

Why does IBM or others need to finance projects off the backs of their employees? They should fund their own projects, just like small business does every single day.

$500 was probably way too much, but Milan is a tourist city. that probably has many higher priced restaurants and he may have walked into some highbrow place where the prices are insane. Think of the $100,000 omelet offered in New York. i think that their deserts would cost just alot too.

This is why people in other countries hate americans.

AUTHOR: Leticia - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 06, 2006

Does your husband do that when he is home or just in other countries?

If he disputed the bill he should have done the same thing he probably would have done here. Asked for the manager. Or does he just write in his own prices when he goes to restaurants here?

Now I am not saying that what they did made it right because the restaurant did was extremely wrong. And you should not have to pay that extremely high bill.

I'm just saying that what your husband did was really rude and I find that wrong as well.

44 Cents

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 05, 2006

For years I had an american express gold card. Was paying $75 per year. 6 or 7 years ago I figured enough was enough. When it was time to renew, I told 'em to close the account. They sent me a check fot $55. If I deposited the check, it would open my account. Shredded the check. They then sent me a check for $75. If I deposited that check, it would open my account. Shredded that one. That last year I had charged over $12,000 on my ae account paying them 3% to 5%, is what the merchant's pay in discount. So they made $500 to $600 off the merchants and wanted to charge me $75. Last year I recieve a credit, of 44 CENTS, on the account I haven't had in 6 years. I call them up and ask what's up. They lost some kind of lawsuit and that's my cut of the payoff. They ask me what I want to do with the credit. Hold it or have them issue me a check. Told 'em to issue me the check. ae sucks.

Here's The Third Person Who Does Not Trust AmEx

AUTHOR: S.n. - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 05, 2006

I have personal Amex cards and one busines Amex card. I use them only for items I need to track and since I pay to have the card, I expect a little bit of assistance from them when there is a problem. You are both correct. Amex could care less about their customers and only about the companies that accept the card. I never use any of my Amex cards anymore except for minimal purchases. When the next year rolls around and they want me to pay to keep their card, I will be cancelling them.

Cynthia, Check this out! AMEX truly sucks. They do things for no reason.

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, February 04, 2006

Cynthia,

Go here for more info on AMEX fraud:
www.amexsux.com

I was an AMEX customer for 12 years with a spotless history on 3 cards. One day they simply cancelled all three cards without explanation or notice. I was in the middle of a move, and they left me stranded.

AMEX truly sucks. They do things for no reason.

You are right, if the merchant gives any kind of resistance on a dispute, you are on your own.

Don't make any more phone calls, do EVERYTHING in writing and send by certified mail, return reciept requested. Put a copy of the certified # on the letter itself and keep a copy for your records.

You need to escalate this directly to the corporate offices, get the info off amexsux.

Good luck!
