I have been a member of American Express since 1998 on one card and 5 years previous on another. I have paid my balance in full every 30 days with and average bill being $10,000. I used the card for my business.
I have accumulated almost a million points and had a final balance or 475,000 points.

In August 2008, I fell behind and I called American Express that I did. This was because a client did not pay his bill to me. They told me they could work out a repayment plan in the new Care Program and gave an option for 12 months to pay back.

I asked them if I take this, will my points be forfeited and they (Manager in both account and rewards department) told me they would not be. as long as I pay by the 15th of every month. I did this for the entire year without fail. In April inquired about getting some of the points for use on a plane fair and they denied me stating that I would have to be paid in full. They told me once I paid in full I would get all my points. At that point I found out that they cancelled the account.

In May I called the Reward Department inquiring about my points, and they told me that I would get them once I send a letter to the correspondence office of American Express asking for them. Instead, I decided to call the CEO's office to confirm this and I spoke to a woman on the CEO's staff. She told me that since the card is now cancelled the point s have been forfeited and she could do nothing for me. That is just the policy she said.

Same Exact thing happened to me.....3 different times....American Express

AUTHOR: Silence514 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, June 22, 2009

I'm totally with you on the American Express rip off. My husband and I had it happen to us 3 times.

American Express kept giving us a "different card that would suit our needs better", we'd take the card and I used it for business purposes to finance my company. I ran into a problem with slow paying customer and I worked out terms (just a couple weeks of time), with Amercian Express one time, and they lead me to believe they were going to work with me. After paying in full, they cancelled my card.

One month later I got another card, I figured maybe they saw that they did the wrong thing and sure enough I used the card racked up a huge amount of points and when I paid one month, in full like usual....they cancelled me again.

And they sent us another card. This time everything went fine until the economy went south they jacked up my interest rate .........and this time, I turned this balance into Chapter 13.......beat ya to it American Express, you crooks!!!!!

BEWARE OF AMERICAN EXPRESS !!!!!!!!!

In the same boat

David..this past week I get a copy of my Equifax credit report and notice where American Express Gold turned my account over for collection, bad debt, skip payments...I have been a member of AE for 9 years and on the Gold Card one had an option to pay in monthly payments the balance on their card so I took that option, then in November last year 2008 I was notified that I had to pay the balance in full in which I was not in a position so I too entered their CARE program with monthly payments for a years to pay it off. I specfically ask them if this would in any way affect my credit or credit report and was emphatically told NO..well they lied and when I brought this up along with the letter I was sent AE told me that the primary Term of Agreement were in effect and not the secondary terms I entered into. They gave me numbers which referred me back to the first number I called who referred me to the same number that referred me to them...the big circle or as in Iraq they call it Circle Talk...My credit score dropped 60 points as they have me past due since November 2008 even though I have never missed a payment, in fact never missed a payment on any bill or credit I have ever had..not late or past due once...how do I address this other than not doing business with them ever again..?? Don't know..but I will get this off my credit report..good luck to you...

What's Wrong With This Picture?

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

I can't pay my american express bill so I agree to a "payment plan" allowing me to pay off what I owe. Ok so far. A year into my "payment plan" I called american express and ask if I can use some of my rewards points towards an airline ticket to take a vacation. They told me not only NO but that I had lost my zillon rewards miles. I guess that's what happens when I can't pay my bills on time. a/e bites.
