Our accounts with AMEX have been closed for a few years because we have closed all our cc's to get them all paid off. For the last 3 or 4 years we have been making paymens fine. In the last year, spread out over the yeas time, we missed the exact payment date of like the 7th and the payment would arrive on th 10th, or if payment one month was the 9th, they would move it the next month and it would be te 4th the next and closing date would be sooner.

We, like many people have payments set on certain pay days. So when the payments hit, once it hit 1 day after the statment closing date, not even 14 days late. This past month due to illness the payment missed the exact due date and statement date and was sent in at like 20 days late. Next thing we know, we received a call from a bad collection company which is another story all together, that AMEX had sent them our account and the full 9300.00 was due right now.

the funny thing is we have another account with the same payment date that was paid at the same time due to same circumstances, that we owe 3500.00 to and they did not send it nowhere. they tried to say we were 90 days late because 3 times in the last year we missed the due date by days, not 30 days late. and tried to make it sound like they did us a favor by not reporting us to credit burero. I told them it was no favor, they could not because we were not 30 days late.

I am continuing to make my payments to AMEX and they are taking it even though they say they do not have the account anymore, that the collection agency has it. But I am not paying the agency because it is one that the BBB has a bad report and lawsuits on report on and has a bad rep. And besides, I am still trying to find out if they can send to collecition if we are not even 30 days late.
Anyway, not a happy camper.

not on a regular basis. most of the time before their due date. 99% of the time before their due date. but they change their due date every month. sometimes it will change by more than 3 or 4 days earlier than it was and when you are on a budget and you have your payments schedualed to be sent at a certain time from a certain paycheck, well, it would have gotten there in time if they had not moved their due date. and it only missed by about 4 days or so and it only happened a couple times in the past 3 years. when I sent in a payment to be there on the due date before and they had changed everything that month "they had revamped the whole billing cycle or something" they had changed the closing date as well so when my payment posted it was 1 day after the statement generated but that month 2 payments were made. this past month was our fault for getting a few days late because I was in the hospital and it got sent a couple of days later. but again, it made it just a few days past the statement closing date and 2 payments posted in this statement cycle and are now caught up. Have never been reported late to the credit bureru at all in all the years we have had a card. not even 30. never have been 30 days late. Thing is we have another card that we send payments out on the exact same dates because they have the payment dates around the same time and they kept it. for some reason they find that on o.k. but the other one not. I could understand if I kept being 30, or even 60 to 90. But those instances with going past the statement dates only happened a couple of times and going past the actual date only happened maby 3 to 4 in the past 3 years. And again, it was because they moved the dates and we could not adjust due to when our paycheck came in..anyway. my point being. I have not heard of a cc company besides amex sending an account to a collections agency for an account only 15 days late (at the time they sent it out). But if you think I am a deadbeat for paying my bills but they get posted a couple of days past the due date, then your opinion is not what I was looking for anyway because I am paying my bills. this is not about not wanting to pay. I am still sending my monthly payments to amex and they are still taking them, even though they say they don't have the accounts anymore they are still taking my money. I have just chosen not to deal with the collection agency and have responded with a letter in kind asking them to verify they own the dept. Especially since amex is still taking payments. I was just wondering if anyone had heard of this happening or if the could legally do that if it was under 30 days and the account had never been over 30 (or even 20) days late.

So you admit to paying your account late on a regular basis and are shocked to find out they got fed up and sent you to collections?

I believe any company can send an account to collections if its past due.
