After purchasing a home for my daughter and her family, we also thought we would protect them against high repair bill. So with the recommendation of the real estate agent we purchased a home warrenty through American Home Shield. Big mistake!!

My daughter called AHS on a Saturday because the refridgerator was not coolong and this is an emergency since my grandson is a type 1 diabetic and has about $600.00 worth of insulin that Must be kept cold in the refridgerator. They were told that the work order would be classed as a emergency and the serice man would be calling them. No phone call Saturday or Sunday.

On. Monday she called again and the customer service representative told her that no order had been made and preceded to put in a order for the refridgerator to be fixed. 3 days and no refridgerator! So my grandson had to come back and forth to my house to take his insulin shots, 4 to 5 times a day. This was unacceptable.

Finally a man called from Hoppes Refridgeration and said he would be out, was ther later than he was supposed to be,looked at the refridgerator thawed a piece of ice on the fan with a little travel blow dryer and said that the freezer door gasket needed to be replaced, but he had to get an authorization to buy the part. That it would be cheaper for her to go buy the gasket and put it on than for him to get it. Not acceptable.

First the serviceman complains that he had to drive 30 miles from his shop, did not have any parts to repair refridgerator, tells her its cheaper and easier for her to but the gasket. But never comes back! She called and the representative tells her that they don't know the status of the freezer gasket but would call the next day and find out. Never calls! Finally she called AHS again, and 1 hour later Hoppes called and said that they would be out on Thursday to fix gasket.

In the mean time she turns on the oven to fix dinner Tuesday night, and low and behold the oven takes 2 hours just to warm up. So she calls AHS again to file a work order repair for the oven, only to find out that there is a $95.00 service fee as well as parts that would have to be paid for. When we purchased this contract through AHS, we thought that this would take care of her out of pocket expense repair bills. That is what we were lead to believe. Unfortunately for us we paid the whole year in full, fortunately for them.

So my daughter and her family ate out 3 days for every meal because they had no refridgerator to keep food cold, and now they have no oven. But this company wants to charge for service fees and parts? We should be the ones charging them for each meal that they had to purchase from resteraunts. As her son eats at least 6 times a day, and this cannot be just fast food all the time!

If there is any class actions filed against this company please feel free to put my name on the list. i called to cancel the contract but the representatives conveniently disconnected the line every time we tried to get through.

This company is a total rip off and should be held responsible for the many false contracts tht they have taken money for and not honored! How many more people do they have to rip off before we all stand together and say " We are not going to put up with a business that treats their "policy holders" this way? It is time for us to take a stand and let AHS know that we as consumers are not going to put up with this kind of treatment. Their customer representatives are rude and uncaring. Would they buy a policy themselves through AHS? I seriously doubt it.

Good and Bad

AUTHOR: Michael - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 18, 2008

We have had an AHS warranty for over eight years and have had very good and very bad experiences.

Just last week, we came back from vacation and the downstairs AC wasn't cooling. Even though the temperature was in the 90s and I was afraid it would take forever to get service, that was not the case. The technician was there and had the AC working within 24 hours of the service request being submitted.

Several years ago we had a plumbing problem that was causing raw sewage to back up through the shower drains. We called AHS at 4:00 on a Sunday afternoon and the problem was resolved that night.

On the other side, there was the four month saga of attempting to get our oven repaired. The bottom oven was heating to 100 degrees more than the temperature was set for, causing food to burn. A technician came out and said he had to order a part. We kept calling for an update: wrong part ordered, technician sick, technician left the company and took part with him, etc. There were at least six missed appointments that we counted. Then a supervisor was going to come do the work, but said I had to be there to help him. That was really strange. He also did not show up twice for appointments. All this time AHS was refusing to send another company out, saying they had already paid for the work. Two guys finally came four months after the original service call and told us the oven is functioning properly-it is supposed to heat to 100 degrees higher than it is set!!! We now just adjust the temperature setting accordingly, but paid $55 for no service and months of headaches.
