I left AIU online due to many factors which I will include below. First and foremost, I would like to say that in reading the other positive posts on AIU and their sister schools only emphasizes and confirms my opinions and others as well. The posts that state AIU is a good school are obviously from AIU employees posing as students.

Let's us ask ourselves why would a completely satisfied AIU student be on the ripoffreport website in the AIU posting section? If a consumer is truly satisfied with their experience then why would they feel the need to locate and respond to negative feedback from dissatisfied consumers? Do you have the time to locate/research every company you did business with to potentially defend their unethical business practices? I didn't think so.

The so called positive comments from AIU students are a true reflection of how this corporation conducts business and reinforces the many comments on fraudulent business practices.

I attended AIU online for two quarters, or four courses. I also was lured into attending this "university" by high pressure sales tactics, unethical sales pitches, and grossly misinformed communication. My original advisor (salesman) told me If I didn't start on a particular date then I would not be admitted and needed to look elsewhere. He stopped responding to my phone calls and email messages after I told him I wanted to change the start date due to my interest in completing a few general educations courses first.

I finally called AIU and demanded to speak with the salesman's supervisor. This supervisor was actually worse and he made many deceptive claims to get me to enroll quicker. He told me I didn't have any outstanding general education courses and I should enroll ASAP to avoid tuition increases. However, my "Articulation Coordinator" stated I had three outstanding general ed courses that I needed to complete in order to graduate.

When I brought this information up to the supervisor he insisted the Articulation Coordinator was incorrect. When I asked the supervisor to email me this information he refused stating it was against school policy. He didn't want a paper trail and knew he could held accountable if anything was put in writing. I ended up speaking with the Dean of AIU and she basically defended the supervisor.

I waited a week and reconsidered attending but against my better judgment enrolled. I was motivated by the speedy degree completion time frame and this clouded my judgment. Attending AIU online was by far the worse decision I ever made and leaving them was by far the best decision I ever made.

During the time I was taking courses with AIU I found the work to be extremely easy and every student received a passing grade regardless of the quality of their work. As an example, when it came time to complete group projects some students in my group did none of the required work and still received a C grade. Also, in the discussion board assignments some students completely copied other student's work and received a passing grade.

The professors were horrible communicators and didn't like to explain the information in detail, basically lazy and inept. Sometimes I received a response to my question the day after the assignment was due.

I came to realize that an AIU student is simply buying an overpriced worthless, expensive degree, not earning a credible education that will be beneficial. At this time I re-checked AIU's accreditation and discovered they were placed on academic warning. This was the smoking gun and the numerous other red flags became evident that the school was substandard at BEST.

Once your enrolled you become a voiceless stock number and your needs are irrelevant. You are sold an education that is not delivered and the high price only justifies one thing; you are paying for the convenience, ease of passing, no exams, and speedy degree. Law schools follow this same format as do many other services. Some of the best law schools are less than half the price compared to substandard law schools who are not even in the top 100. Why is this? Again, you're buying guaranteed admittance, easy work, and a worthless piece of paper to hang on your wall. Everything in life is a give and take.

Another problem I'm having with AIU is the courses do not transfer. Every university I approach literally laughs when I mention I have AIU transfer credits. Also they overcharge for their books which are of lesser quality.

I would stay away from AIU and their sister schools! In the long run you will be pounded with injustice and your creditability will be tarnished. No degree is actually more valuable that an AIU degree.

I'm looking into a class action lawsuit against AIU and ask others who were victimized to join me. Justice must be rendered and it is up to us to fight for fairness and help protect others. I believe we have a duty to ourselves and others to voice our opinions and command attention to injustice.

AIU has robbed and destroyed too many students and the time has come for rectitude. If you have been lied to, overcharged, pressured, ignored, etc. then please email me so we can redeem our dignity and fight for decency. All the others who have posted negative comments on AIU I urge you to email me ASAP so we can begin the process. Commenters such as Steve, Nicole, Steven the professor/lawyer, and others please contact me as I would love to discuss some issues in more detail.

As for the AIU employees posing as students be very careful and tread lightly. Any illegal retaliation on your part will be documented and acted upon swiftly.

Thank you

Nothing but the real scam

AUTHOR: Nadine - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, December 19, 2009

Got burned out in my old profession and needed to get another education so I ask for info and got thrown into the boiler-room practice of AIU admission. After that well. 3 tests posted on my student site per 90 minutes to stay in the program (which I pass), locked out of the class-room because some wit at AIU failed to due there job (had to signed and fax a promissory note on a Sunday no less to get back into class-room), and paid extra to clep out of 3 basic classes.

The 10 main classes for my degree in criminal justice where legit as the professors as well (researched all of them).

Started in 2003 and graduated with a 4.0 in 2005 from AIU. After years of networking, interviews and what have you I gave up. I am not talking about the classes but the admission, advisors and people to help you gain employment. What a crap full of elusion and scams.

I ask a lot of question about employment and got nothing but lies. The degree is helpful to people that are already working in some entity of the criminal justice system and I am not one of them so therefore this degree is no more then a piece of paper. No, I am not the only one. 70 % of the students that graduated with me are not employed in that field and moved on as myself with more schooling in other areas just to pay back there student loans, or still continue working in a dead-end job just to make ends meet only with the student loan adage in form of thousands of dollars

Today, I am in a profession that is fulfilling and pays enough to pay back the mess AIU created for me. The only draw back is the unbelievable high price $ 37.000.00 I have to pay back for a degree I cannot utilize.

Due your research/employment search and look what is required before you enter into any higher education. In this case if you are not a police officer, sheriff, or work for the court/correctional system you are OUT!!!!!

BTW, correctional officer/ security people are not requiring having a degree in this state.

$37.000.00 later, wiser and in a totally different profession I have a bachelor degree from AIU that I can hang on the wall which NOBODY cares.

Good luck

Alumni Responding to Baseless Claim

AUTHOR: Lasseterja - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, August 17, 2009

As an Alumni and not an employee, I wish these baseless claims met with legal consequences.  Who are you to tell me or any other poster that we are employees and then impune our intelligence with claims of a substandard education?

These baseless claims do absolutely nothing but tarnish the reputation of many hard working students earning their degree while working full time. Many working professionals like me have attended AIU and have significantly enhanced our professional development in our chosen fields. My experience has been positive with advancement by my employer after completing my M.Ed. degree. The program of study greatly enhanced my abilities to perform my job as it was more in tune with the latest changes in the training industry whereas many traditional universities lag behind the current trends.

The course load is aggressive and requires substantial work to generate a high GPA, all of which one would expect.  This is certainly my experience and is in sharp contrast to Sara's claims which I find hard to believe on any level.   Additionally, the instructional staff are the same ones at other Universities as many are adjunct professors at multiple universities.  In fact many are accomplished professionals with many publishing credits in their chosen fields.  To claim otherwise is just illustrates the unsubstantiated claims by this poster.

On transfer credits: that is based on course descriptions and varies among each institution.  I have attended both online and traditional universities for my undergraduate work and I had similar issues regardless of institution.  As a 23 Naval veteran, I attended many universities as I transferred and through countless deployments.

Attending AIU for my graduate work was by far the best decision I have made for continuing education.  I have been accepted to a doctoral program at a local university with having a M.Ed. from AIU.  It's regionally accredited and that's what is important. My Master's was equal to others earned by students attending traditional and other online universities.  Again this is a baseless claim without merit!

I am a recent graduate of AIU

AUTHOR: Chuck - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, April 28, 2009

I had been attending AIU from the beginning of 2006 to May of 2008. In my experience I have found them to be courteous, knowledgeable and professional. During my time, I earned a Bachelors in Information Technology and a Masters in Business Administration.

I cannot overstate how much the curriculum and education has enriched my life and career. My ambition was to finish the bachelors program in another school I had not completed earlier in life. They accepted some credits and formulated a program where I was able to complete my studies and earn a Bachelor's within a year. I was happy with my studies and professors.

In addition, over time, I began to compare the studies with other institutions. You see, while I was attending school online, I was working for a major educational institution in Atlanta. I will only state that it was their School of Medicine division. Accredited Institutions utilize the same criteria and knowledge base to educate their students. Therefore, the same questions and study goals are required of students in AIU as well as higher profile institutions. If you don't believe me check the online study boards and compare AIU's curriculum with others. Had I not acquired the knowledge from AIU, I know I would not have fared as well as I did in employment. Today, I am a Project Manager for a distinguished technology consulting firm and have been regarded by my peers as a leader.

If you think I am an employee of AIU... shame on you. I am also a member of the web site named LinkedIn. I guarantee... if you look at all of the AIU graduates by performing a search, you will not only find that the cream of the crop graduated from there... but that they have not had the type of negative experience described in this post.

My assessment of the situation is that some people, no matter where they are... seem to get fixated with the negative aspects of their journey in life. I am not a philosopher or psychologist but it becomes evident that some people decide to focus on things contrary to what they need to accomplish success. My advice is simple stay focused on your career goals, get a good grade and move on towards a successful occupation.

We all have a choice as to whether or not we want to maintain healthy relationships in life or to burn bridges. I cannot express how many times AIU has worked with me regarding my educational goals and financial capability. AIU is a great place to learn! I highly recommend American Intercontinental University.

I am a student of AIU and you are wrong.

AUTHOR: Mplsopinionated - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 25, 2009

I am a student at AIU online. I did not feel that AIU uses unethical or high pressured sales tactics.

There is not a difference in thier recruiting than any other college, army or comparable business. They are a business and because have a successful business means that you need away of getting clients thats why they recruit.

I have taken 4 classes at AIU and have been satisfied with each instructor and the knowledge I have gained with each class. I feel I work hard day to day on my assignments. AIU seems to put a lot of effort in to thier program and its a shame that you are cutting them down.

An AIU Graduate?

AUTHOR: Chava - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 24, 2009

WOW! "I'm a student there I'm you are wrong!" and, "Now it's not for everyone..."
and of course, "what is this person talking about." (isn't that a question?)
I'm Not trying to nit pick, but, these lines were written by a university student.
A small amount of research by "student" would have uncovered the name LARA as the submitter of the report. "Student" refers to 'he' as the author of the original complaint in his rebuttal.
If this is what AIU not only tolerates, but produces... NO Thanks!

I'm a student there I'm you are wrong !

AUTHOR: Student - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 01, 2009

First of all I would like to say that this person is lying, I attend AIU and if you do not participate or get your work done you get bad grades, not a c but F's. I had friends that went there and have flunked classes. He is so much of a liar because you cannot see the other students grades, how does he know they got a c? In the discussion boards and on all assignments turned in they go through software called, The Originality Verification utility which is used to test the Similarity Scoring of documents you are preparing to submit for this class. With all this said, you cannot cheat because the software will know where you got the information from like, what student, what year, what website. So there you have that.

Now, I've had difficulty in some classes because they were hard. The books were high quality and once I finished using them I sold them on the internet, for example I paid $ 80.00 for a book and sold it almost new for $67.00 to a company online that resells books. Now why would a company pay you so much money if they were low quality?

I know the person is just mad because they had other problems. I know many people that graduated from there and have jobs and got accepted to other colleges, what is this person talking about. Besides most colleges only take a few credits anyway so you can take their courses, Anyone with good sense will know that. I know they are legit I go there and I do not work for them. I'm a regular person that wants to learn. Now it's not for everyone because the classes are accelerated, but you will learn if you do your reading and pay attention, but if you do not do your reading and pay attention you will flunk. Now I feel better.
