On June 5, 2001 World Wide Source telephoned our offices and informed our secretary (on her first day with us) that they were confirming address information on an order placed prior to her employment with us. She confirmed the order with World Wide Source (WWS) not realizing that we never ordered a listing in WWS American Business Index or the AT&T National Toll Free Directory (which was given complimentary). This confirmation was recorded.

We have one question. Why would a secretary on her first day agree to commit the company she just started working for to a $423.95 invoice for advertising or a directory listing that wasnt approved unless, the telemarketer on the phone mislead her by stating they were calling to confirm address information for something we had already purchased?

American Solution Information (ASI) has called several times requesting payment and offering to play the recording to us. Weve explained the circumstances to them and they have informed us that they are only a collection agency. It makes one wonder if this scam isnt being used on other unsuspecting companies.

In an attempt to conduct some further investigation into what WWS/ASI were actually selling, I telephoned one of the listings. What I found was very interesting. A woman answered the phone and announced that she was in an Accounting Firms office and not a contractors office and that the number I had dialed had been the number to their offices since before 2001.

We contacted our District Attorney here in Florida and he(their offices)telephoned as soon as they got our letter. They informed us of pretty much what everyone else here has said.

So I wrote Mr. Angelatos, the owner of these bad companies, a letter myself. I informed him that we knew exactly who he was, what his companies were, and we let him know we reported him for mail fraud and that we weren't gonna give them a single American penny.

There's other complaints on Google, we found. If you read the first complaint that comes up in Google you'll see where we got our information to call the Royal Canadian Mounted Police PhoneBusters Unit. They've only received 28 complaints against this company and they tell me that is only a 1/2 percent.

More people should exercise their rights as a consumer, if they did, less people would be getting ripped off!!!
Oh yeah the RCMP Phone Busters can be reached by fax at 888-654-9426 (toll free). Remember, these are not civil offenses, what they are doing is CRIMINAL.

Knowledge is Power! Help Us Gain the Knowledge We Need to Fight WWS!

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 07, 2003

Dear Thelma and Harpinder,

Thank you for your willingness to comment on the illegal and deceitful activities of your former employer, World Wide Source. It amazes me how such a large operation can maintain such an image of respectablility in their local community while running the sort of scam one expects to find in back alleys here in the U.S.

Perhaps both of you could enlighten us about this phenomenon and how the local press seems to have missed the "real" story at World Wide Source. They seem to show up in the "economic development" category as a large, reputable employer, yet their victims are all sufficiently removed by geography so as to be invisible. We wouldn't be writing letters to the editor of the Dartmouth paper, nor would we be contacting the local police!

When you went to work at World Wide Source, were you led to believe that you were being a list of actual slow-pays and no-pays? That would seem to me to be the genius behind this scam--you were true believers until you learned that the company was scamming churches and little mom and pop shops like mine! You were given detailed training materials to work with and were very effective until you caught on.

It was almost heart-warming to read about how WWS Dartmouth Call Centre donated 100 beds to the local furniture bank and that "a lot of kids would get a good night's sleep." Well, how about all the poor bookkeepers and church secretaries and small shop owners who have lost sleep over this horrible scam? The Talmud and the Christian Scriptures are explicit as to the legitimate needs of both parties in a business transaction. You cannot give your alms in public with fanfare while you rob widow's' houses! The interesting thing is that this scam can only continue because of a legitimate desire of small businesses to satisfy their debts. Hopefully the Rip Off Report has helped many people realize that there is no debt created by the deceptive tactics employed by World Wide Source!

Thank you again Rip Off Report!

THEIR ADDRESS!

AUTHOR: Harpinder - (Canada)

POSTED: Sunday, April 06, 2003

Thank you Thelma for WWS' Nova Scotia address.
They have so many addresses, but EVERYONE knows that their main office, the one the owner Pavlos is always at, is the one on 1250 Drummond Street, 12th floor, in Montreal. I used to work there also, and if you want to find Pavlos he very well could be there, or anyone important involved in his deceitful operations.

"Never Never Nver Give Up"--Pavlos Angelatos is Giving Credits!

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 02, 2003

Dear Michelle,

Way to go! That was a great idea to bury them in fax paper.

Still no credit for us in Staunton, but there's always today's mail yet to come in.

Thank you for posting the New York address and the working fax number. It is very important to keep working with the New York Attorney General as they have asked me for more information and are obviously concerned.

The Dartmouth Call Centre of World Wide Source seems to be bigger than first imagined--employing as many as 600 people. This is a LARGE operation if that in fact is true, so don't be suprised if you hear from them again in a year or so.

Also, it is of interest that many municipal budgets are available online and a search of "World Wide Source" shows that they're being paid--taxpayers, please take note! Commissioners of the Revenue, check those invoices!

And join with me in expressing a big "Thank You" to the Rip Off Report staff for creating this forum. Isn't it great to see it working for all of you?

New Address and a Victory!!

AUTHOR: Michelle - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, March 31, 2003

Today, 31 March 2003, we received a credit from World Wide Source/American Solutions Information/Ameri-Source or whatever name they've chosen to use today and we were happy that all of the efforts we put into reporting them to the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police)Phone Buster's Unit, the New York State District Attorney, the state of Florida Economic Crimes Division, the list goes on paid off. But we did catch one thing that may be helpful.

It seems they've changed their address again, the new address is: 10180 Millitary Turnpike Plattsburg, NY 12901. Beware, they are most probably still upto their same old nasty tricks!!!

Let me tell you what I did to get back at them for the harrassing phone calls:
I printed out a copy of the documents filed in Vermont and Missourri, I printed out all of the complaints here on ripoffreports.com, I printed out a copy of each letter I mailed out,I copied everything I had on this whole escapade from day one.

Each time they called, I faxed everything to their 800 fax number three times. I figure I had about 25 pages all together, after a week they probably went through about a ream of paper and were getting tired of my name on everything.

They didn't even call to ask me to stop. I think they just figured it out. If you want to try it their fax number is: 800-303-1489. Good luck to you all.

The Vermont Case Against Pavlos Angelatos, World Wide Source, Ameri-source, American Solutions and Whatever Other Names They Go By!

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 18, 2003

Dear Michelle:

Look what I found on the State of Vermont Attorney General's Web Site! I wish I had known about the settlement sooner. Even though I've missed the claims deadline, we can still shut them down before they hurt too many others. Missouri has a case against them coming up!

ATTORNEY GENERAL SETTLES CONSUMER FRAUD CLAIMS AGAINST CANADIAN TELEMARKETERS

Vermont Attorney General William H. Sorrell announced today that his office has settled consumer fraud claims against two Montreal-based telemarketers that sell listings in business-to-business directories. W.W.S. World Wide Source Publishing, Inc. ("WWS") and Ameri-Source Publications, Inc. ("Ameri-Source") will together pay a total of $125,000 to the State of Vermont and provide refunds to all of their Vermont customers.

In a lawsuit filed in Chittenden Superior Court in November 2001, the Attorney General alleged that WWS and five of its chief officers had systematically violated the Vermont Consumer Fraud Act in the course of selling listings in a directory called the "American Business Index." According to the Attorney General's complaint, WWS, using a Vermont return address, solicited orders for two-year listings in its directory for $399.95, by means of outbound telemarketing calls to businesses throughout the United States. Over 100 of those customers complained to the State of Vermont.

The court complaint alleged that WWS violated the Consumer Fraud Act by:
Misrepresenting that the company offers renewals of listings in the local Yellow Pages, when in fact it offers primarily new listings in a non-local directory of limited circulation.

Overstating the circulation of the directory as 1 million, when in fact it is closer to 35,000.
Misrepresenting WWS' location by using local Vermont addresses in Alburg and Williston in all dealings with customers.

Billing many customers without their authorization.
Failing to provide customers with their legally-required three-day right to cancel.
Overcharging customers for a directory that is of limited value to most businesses.

Ameri-Source, a company which shares common management and ownership with WWS and uses a return address in New York State, also telemarkets listings in a business-to-business directory.

The Attorney General's settlement is contained in a Consent Decree approved this week by the Chittenden Superior Court. Although they have denied any wrongdoing, under the Consent Decree WWS, Ameri-Source and their President, Pavlos Angelatos, are barred from doing business in or into Vermont, or using a business address or facilities in the state.

Also, by April 1, 2002, WWS and Ameri-Source must send refunds to all of its customers in Vermont; or, where payment records are unavailable, Vermont businesses listed in a directory must be sent a letter offering a refund upon proof of payment.

Finally, the Consent Decree requires WWS to pay the State $79,000 ($59,000 in penalties and $20,000 in fees and costs), and Ameri-Source to pay the State $46,000 ($36,000 in penalties and $10,000 in fees and costs)for a total of $125,000.

In addition, out-of-state customers of WWS will have until September 30, 2002, to send a written complaint to the Attorney General's Consumer Assistance Program (CAP) at Morrill Hall, UVM, Burlington, VT 05405, and receive a refund.

Commenting on the settlement, Attorney General Sorrell noted that his office will continue to take tough action against fraudulent telemarketersincluding out-of-state and out-of-country companies that pose as Vermont companies by using a local mailing address. "Companies like this undermine Vermont's good name. We are taking a hard line against fraudulent telemarketing, especially where it hurts Vermont residents or threatens to tarnish the Vermont business community's reputation for honesty."

For further information on the settlement, businesses can contact the Consumer Assistance Program at 1-800-649-2424 or 656-3183 (in Chittenden County)
